What is Patreon, and who are you?
I was was born in Moscow, Russia, and came to the US in 1998. I'm the author of dark fantasy short fiction and 7 novels, and the winner of Amtrak Residency Program 2015. My novel Rosehead won Honorary Mention in the YA Category in the Indie Ebook Award 2016, and I'm currently writing my next novel, T.U.B.E. Patreon is the place where I teach you all I know about writing. Think of it as a monthly subscription to a college-level writing class. Choose your level on the right. Your support is my salary.
Okay, that sounds very official. But who are you, REALLY?
Writing pulled me back from the dead. I wanted to kill myself—life didn't have much meaning—but my therapist said, “No. Don’t do it. Write.” So I did, and that unlocked something—something that soon became a torrent. My native Russian ceded to English. I felt like I’ve found my language, like it was safe to tell my stories. I started blogging, then writing flash fiction, then books. Writing became my therapy. Dark beginnings to happiness. Can you call it a career? I don’t know. I call it life.
Why are you on Patreon?
I've been writing full-time since 2012 and have spread myself too thin over multiple online places like Twitter, Facebook, my blog, several newsletters, and lately, by taking on multiple clients whom I teach how to sell their art. Sleep became a luxury, and I had to make a decision: to work myself into the ground or to find balance and prosper. So in 2018 I've decided to move EVERYTHING to Patreon.
Where will my money go?
Check out the tiers to your right! They're named after the animals from Russian fairy tales (tales I read as a child), plus Baba Yaga, plus one very scary Borscht Beast.
That sounds pretty fantastic…but, why should I believe you?
Fair point. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s what my patrons are saying:
“Ksenia is a talented writer and all around great human. Her upcoming book T.U.B.E. is a weird and twisted thriller that I couldn't put down! As a Patreon supporter, her personal touches are beautiful and her writing advice is invaluable.”
— Liz Pecoraro-Snyder, patron
"Ksenia is so talented, and she's written some amazing stories. That alone is enough for me to carry on my support, as I really want to make sure that she has the means to carry on writing, in the hope that all the more people get to discover her writing. Obviously, Ksenia's personality, her devotion and the connection she create with her readers make it so much easier to not think about the money that go out of my bank on a monthly basis to reach her."
— Nikos Papageorgiou, patron
"I fucking love Ksenia and wish her books to be at NY best sellers list! Dammit!"
