Kuki Koori is creating Music and visuals

We started creating as Kuki Koori in 2017 and we've been real excited about the response we've gotten to our concept, our live shows and to our ongoing release of music videos on Instagram and Facebook. Thanks to our supporters so far (!) -  your encouragement has kept us pushing our limits and we are loving the challenge.

Naturally we want to create lots more, and we're excited that you're interested in joining us to see how far the concept can be pushed,.

First, the backstory:
Kuki Koori is a collaboration between Kuki Blaze (Iain Gordon), keyboardist for legendary band Fat Freddy's Drop, and Koori (Mick Finn), illustrator, animator and astrophotographer. We have created a live jamming-style performance where we start from scratch, and over an hour or so, build up an animated soundscape, based on a broad theme but created spontaneously while being output over PA and projector.

Some of recent rehearsal and live themes: a deep sea pressure cooker, indigenous mythology & astronomy, dystopian futures, space travel and ancient New Zealand and Australian landscapes complete with extinct fauna.

We really enjoy the creative pressure of building up an hour long soundscape with animations to match and tend to rehearse the same way, by tackling an hour long theme, starting from nothing and building up to a high-energy audio-visual blast. Lots of our social media posts have come from the rehearsals i.e. soundscape and animation snippets up to a minute long - but they don't capture all of the energy and spontaneity of the full hour or so.

What are the rewards for joining our community? We are going to take the raw recordings from live gigs and rehearsals and remaster them to make fine pieces of Kuki Koori audio-visual magic. From 60 minutes of raw material we'll be making a 5 to 15 minute long music video in full stereo and HD video quality. These music videos are available for our Patreon community to view, as well as downloading images and video files at higher pledge levels, access to vinyl releases and merchandise, and rehearsal/backstage passes.

For the raw material we are recording 20 channels of audio with screen capture of the live drawing and animation, and for the final pieces we will use ProTools and Final Cut Pro x to create a HD music video.

We will always be creating music videos from our material; some will even become vinyl EP releases, but we love the way that Patreon makes it possible for us to work with patrons to create more pieces of magic. We're looking forward to creative times!
