Hi, my name is Hermann Rolfes and I am a games and tools developer from Germany. I'm a programmer for more than 15 years and I want to overhaul the current idtech3 based source codes like GtkRadiant and ioquake3 to make them work inside the browser (using WebAssembly and WebGL). Using the latest technologies like emscripten I am already able to run my ioquake3 fork inside the browser: http://killtube.org/kungfooman/

https://github.com/KILLTUBE/libradiant
https://github.com/KILLTUBE/libwebgame
https://github.com/KILLTUBE/libwebgame_julia
https://github.com/KILLTUBE/libwebgame_html5

I worked so long on all this living off my savings, but they are running out. I don't want to stop working on libradiant and libwebgame, considering how groundbreaking it can become in near future.

My vision is to create an online gaming platform/community with lots of players and free-to-play content powered by idtech3 based engines (like ioquake3, OpenJK, tremulous, Unvanquished etc.), all with integrated mapping and other editing tools (like md3, iqm and ghoul2 editing tools). Something like YouTube, but for games. Everybody shall be able to simply make highly-modded games in no time and learn scripting/coding along the way.

The servers for these games will run on Linux and are going to be highly scriptable via Julia: https://julialang.org/

I was hosting Call of Duty 2 servers in the past for customers, so I already have lots of experience to host the servers. To run this cheaply, servers can run on 3$€/month cloud servers or for way higher cost on dedicated root servers with way better CPUs to deal with lots of custom scripts and lots of players (up to 64 players on ioquake3)

All the development is open on GitHub:
