You'll get exclusive access to sketchbook and notebook pages (spoilers redacted...mostly), which means you'll get to see what's going on inside my brain as I work on upcoming projects. When you're friends, months from now, say "did you know Lara Elena Donnelly has a new amazing thing out?" you'll be able to yawn with great disdain and say, "oh that old thing? We finished with that ages ago."
You, my friends, get the cut scenes, the drabbles, the what-ifs, the odd bits left out. You get to go behind the curtains, above the lights, into the dressing rooms and the costume shop. And then you get to keep the secrets about the stage magic and smile knowingly when other people wonder how it's done.
To show our thanks, you'll get that exclusive sketchbook access, cut scenes, and a monthly bedtime story read by the author--an excerpt of original fiction, a pretty poem, classic literature in the public domain, or a bit or bob of something that happens through Lara's head. And darling, we do do all the voices.
Writing books and seeing readers read them is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Readers are the most wonderful thing that have ever happened to me. Meeting you all in bookstores across the country, and on Twitter and Tumblr, makes my heart sing. But I'll be frank: it don't pay the bills.
I was once that fabled creature, a writer with a full-time job. I hope to become a writer with a full-time job again someday. In the interim, I would certainly like to keep myself fed and housed and keep my lights on.
In exchange for:
- exclusive peeping rights into my notebooks and sketchbooks
- access to luscious and lascivious deleted scenes and drabbles
- virtual dinner dates (complete with recipes!)
- and bedtime stories read aloud by yours truly
I'm hoping you will help me pay for rent and healthcare. I'm not even using this money for booze! Or snakeskin shoes! You're just keeping the electricity in my laptop and the food in my fridge so I can keep banging out words. You are essentially becoming co-creators, helping me make fiction.
