Welcome! Bienvenidos! Bem Vinda! Bienvenue!

My name is Gabriela "Gabi" Thorne, and I am La Reina Negra. I am what some would call a creative or content creator and what I call a storyteller. I tell my own story and stories like mine through my writing and voice.

My inspiration for this YouTube channel came from my own experience. Growing up as a Black Latina, I felt very alone and isolated from my Latinidad because of phrases like "You're not Latina" to never seeing myself represented in Latinx media. When Amara La Negra hit the mainstream scene, I was overjoyed and hopeful that we, Black Latinxs, would finally get the recognition we deserved. Instead, Amara's Blackness was suddenly up for debate, and she was seen as just Dominican or a dark-skinned Latina by some. My frustration increased and I could take it no more. So with this frustration, I created my YouTube Channel, La Reina Negra, to show the oftentimes forgotten stories and histories of Black Latinxs and Latin Americans. I want to bring these stories and histories to life to all those who have questioned my Latinidad, Amara's Blackness, or who have denied the very existence of Black Latinxs, so that they can understand that Black people have existed in Latin America since the beginning of the slave trade. Join me on this journey as I explore the varied and different histories of Blackness within Latin America.

What is Patreon?
Patreon allows you to support different creatives by becoming a patron and pledging a certain amount of money (between $1 and $25 for me) each month to receive different rewards. The subscription can be canceled at any time.

What do I get from supporting you? Where does the money go?
You get to support a budding creative trying to find her path in life as well as different rewards based on your pledge. Each tier has a different type of reward(s) that builds off the previous tiers. As for where the money goes, well first and foremost I believe that creatives deserve to be paid for their labor. But, also I am a recent college grad/adult who like anyone has bills to pay and food to put on her plate. The money will also go back into funding this endeavor. I hope to eventually buy a professional camera, make my own home studio, have the videos translated to other languages and more, but it takes time (which is money) and costs money.

What if I don't have money or don't want to subscribe monthly?
That is 100% understandable and fine. You can offer one-time support via  PayPal, CashApp ($GabiThorne), or Venmo (Gabi-Wabi). You also don't have to support monetarily at all. By simply following and engaging with me on Twitter and Instagram or subscribing to my YouTube channel, that's enough support.

But, what if I don't want to learn about boring stuff like history? What else do you offer?
Well, history is actually not that boring once you find something you're interested. Also, while I love exploring AfroLatinx/Caribbean history, I do more than that. I am a journalist and blogger at heart and write about everything from a product review of the newest beauty product to looking at how students of color are treated on Ivy League campuses. I'm a renaissance woman who has a varied group of interests, so check out my website to see all the things I do.

Now that you have made it this far, I want to, first and foremost, thank you for reading all of this and your support, and welcome you to my journey as a storyteller.

Con amor y besitos,
La Reina Negra
