Larp Wellington are creating Live Action Role Playing Games

We write and run short theatre-style live action roleplaying games (larps). One-shot, character-driven, the sort you'd play at Intercon, Consequences or Hydra. We're looking for a community to support us doing this, to encourage us to publish our games, and help us choose which future projects to focus on.

Who are "we"? Larp Wellington, the original creator of this Patreon, and CatnipMouse, who needed an outlet, but didn't want to duplicate effort by creating her own. Our larps have ranged from 6 to 160 players (the latter as part of a bigger team, of course), and have been run in New Zealand, the UK, the USA, South Africa, Poland, Finland, and Lithuania. A couple have been translated into French, Russian, and Spanish.

Larp Wellington has a taste for historicals with social and political themes, and a focus on drama rather than winners and losers. Larps he's written recently include:
  • Property & Propriety: Another regency family drama, and a direct sequel to Longmuir Hall (14 players). Will premier at Hydra 2019, and will be released to patreons shortly afterwards.
  • Longmuir Hall: A regency family drama, inspired by Pride & Prejudice, Poldark, and Downton Abbey (13 players). Premiered at Hydra 2018, released to Patreons. Awaiting public release.
  • The Kyme Summit: A retro-SF larp set in a baroque interstellar empire, inspired by Frank Herbert's Dune (6 players). Currently available on DriveThruRPG.
  • Persephone's Choice: An Asimovian robot larp, inspired by I, Robot (the book, not the Will Smith film), The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, and (with permission) Daniel Kane's larp Persephone's Gift. Premiered at Phoenix 2017 (13 players; fanfic).
  • Jane Austen's "Emma": An 11-player adaptation of Jane Austen's famous novel. Currently available on DriveThruRPG.
  • The Gehenna Memo: A larp of bureaucracy, sorcery, espionage, and Lovecraftian horror, set at Bletchley Park and inspired by ENIGMA and Charles Stross' The Atrocity Archives (13 players).
  • The Devil's Brood: A 9-player historical larp inspired by The Lion in Winter. Currently available on DriveThruRPG.
  • Delicious Friends: A larp of Fallen London (20 players)

Catnip Mouse's larps include:
  • Fate and Fatality: A regency comedy-horror larp inspired by the tabletop rpg Bedlam Hall. In preparation.
  • Spellbound: A comedy larp of witches and advertising. It's Mad Men meets Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie (12 players). Currently available on DriveThruRPG.
  • Nightfloors: Inspired by the classic DELTA GREEN scenario by Dennis Detwiller (8 players).
  • Murder and Matchmaking: A regency mashup inspired by the novel of the same name. Pride & Prejudice meets Sherlock Holmes (20 players).
  • Hotel Paradise: A 16-player larp about the ghosts who haunt an abandoned hotel. Inspired by Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book and the TV show Angel.
  • Boffo's Birthday Bash: An art deco comedy inspired by P. G. Wodehouse's "Drone's Club" stories (20 players; fanfic).
  • Betrothals and Betrayals: A regency occult larp, inspired by Pride & Prejudice and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (13 players).

Your support will encourage us to write. It will encourage us to share our larps with a wider audience. And it will hopefully encourage us to pretty them up and formally publish them. Not every game we write will be able to be published - obviously, some use other people's IP, and are effectively live-action fanfic - but we're hoping to make a few more available that way.

$1 or more per larp

A dollar will help keep us in coffee to fuel our creative processes. You'll get access to our patron-only feed. More importantly, you'll also get access via Google Drive to any larps we write once we publish them.

Published larps
$5 or more per larp

You'll get a free electronic copy of any larps we pretty up and publish via Drive-Thru. Not every larp will end up that way, and not all of them will cost money, but some will. You'll also get a free copy of The Devil's Brood to start with.

Early access
$10 or more per larp

You'll get access to the Google Drive version of our games immediately after their initial run. There's often a significant delay between first running a game and sharing it with the public, so this gives you six to twelve months of early access.

Golden ticket
$20 or more per larp only 3 left

Free and guaranteed entry to the first standalone run of any game you fund. Note that we run in Wellington; if you live outside Wellington, we're willing to negotiate dates to give you time to arrange travel.

Stuffed games
$50 or more per larp only 5 left

You'll get a stuffed version of each game we complete, with character sheets and briefings, run-time notes and prop documents all sorted and stuffed into their envelopes so you can run it yourself.

Goals
$14 of $25 per larp
Research: I like to research my larps, and that means buying books. At this level, I'll be able to afford a few more per game. Naturally, I'll tell you all about them, what I pillaged from them, and how they influenced the design.
