About Luigi Battaglioli

Hi there, I'm Luigi.

I'm an 18 year old maker, who's living in the Silicon Valley of upstate NY.. Burnt Hills of course.

I started learning to code when I was in 6th grade. I was never really an artistic or creative person, and programming allowed me to build cool, creative things and I instantly fell in love with it.

I wanted to learn everything there was to know about computer science. I went on to learn a bunch of different programming languages including Python, Ruby, PHP, Java and JavaScript. After learning a lot about each of these languages, I finally found my niche. I felt most comfortable with PHP, JS, and Python, so I settled down and focused only on those three languages. I then went on to learn different frameworks and libraries for these languages.

I started off in web development (building websites and web apps), and I love it still. I mainly use the PHP framework Laravel and Vue.js as my reactive JavaScript library when I'm building my applications. The first app I fully built is an app called CodeGeek.org. It is an online learning platform that teaches people how to program in Python. I baked into it a bunch of pretty cool features like video lectures, programming challenges, and a community forum for people to go and get help if they don't understand something.

Oh and did I mention! I actually got recognized by Congress for building it and got to go visit Washington DC for a few days with my family to showcase my app with a bunch of other teen developers! I love teaching and spreading knowledge and building this allowed me to combine all the things I love doing, into one app.

While CodeGeek certainly doesn't pay any of the Amazon Web Service bills, seeing how its completely not-for-profit, I am working on a couple of other apps to hopefully launch that might pay the bills and make me a little extra on the side. It's my dream to be a maker and build cool things, and actually make money off of them.

I'm also really interested in data science and machine learning. I've been attempting to teach myself this field of study for a couple months now, and its been a truly rewarding experience. I hope to go to college and study bioinformatics (which is a subset of data science focusing primarily on its application to biological data).

While the actual process of building applications is extremely rewarding for me, I want to make a living out of my work at some point in my life, and starting a Patreon page seems like a good starting point for me. This way, I can get one step closer towards my dream of making a living doing what I love, while still learning new things, having fun and trying out new things.
