A couple of years ago, my friends and I thought it might be fun to make a podcast for the conversations we were already having about working in customer support and how we could learn from each other to be better at our jobs and helping customers. This turned into the Support Breakfast podcast and it was a really fun ride. Ultimately, it proved too difficult to consistently produce a high-quality podcast that managed to fit into the free time and conflicting schedules of four individuals and it ran out of steam.

But I think I can do more...

While Support Breakfast was great opportunity for us individually, I still think we can do more to help enrich the Customer Support community and empower us all to take control of our careers and recognise the importance of helping our customers.

I started organising events in London under the name London Support Lab to bring more members of the community together to learn from each other and I'd like to do more: more events, more podcasts, more community building, more writing to share what I've learned and a more awesome experience for all of our customers.

Here's what I'm aiming for...

I'd like to be able to offer four events per year to bring together the customer support and success community to learn from one another. These would be evening or half-day events offering discussions, talks and workshops. I'd ultimately also like to add a conference and the option to offer training or workshops for support teams and support managers.

In addition to these in-person events, I want to produce one piece of writing per month to help share my own knowledge and experience in both customer support and computer science, as well as bringing back a fortnightly podcast to talk to other people about their specialisations. I'd like to interview all kinds of experts to help support teams build the skills that we're missing and create a pool of shared knowledge on what our best practices should be.

I can't do it alone...

The Support Breakfast podcast took a lot of time, energy and money to keep afloat and London Support Lab needs even more of those things. I want to make as much of this learning content available for free as possible but I also don't believe in asking people (including myself) to do unpaid labour. This means that I need to find the money for things like venues, recording equipment and decent editing software. I also don't want to burn myself out so I need extra hands and a way to compensate people for their time - even if this only means covering their costs and throwing in some snacks right now.
