Dear friends,

We cannot believe it has been more than 3 years since we started Learning Chinese through Stories (LCTS). It has been rewarding and fun for us.

I remember our first story was “狼来了/the wolf is coming” recorded in GarageBand on our dining table in our little apartment. If you listen to that episode today, you can tell how poor the recording and editing were. But we are happy we started it.

We are lucky. In August 2015, we received our first 5-star review on iTunes from our listener. At the same time we started receiving emails from many listeners expressing their interest in our podcast, as well as advices on how we can make it better. Those advices and encouraging words has inspired us along the way. Today we are having an average of 3000 downloads daily. Most rewardingly, LCTS is helping thousands of Chinese language learners around the world to improve their language skills.

As we are continuing on the journey, we have encountered some obstacles. At the beginning, we pretty much did everything on our own: finding great stories, editing stories, recording, editing recording, listing vocabs ,transcribing and uploading the story, updating, and maintaining the website etc. We were aiming for one story per week with explanation. We tried for a while, but as you can tell we are not reaching our goal. Many listeners wrote to us and wondered whether we could provide transcript for the story explanation. As a matter of fact, that’s something we have always been wanting to do. We then started to realize there is no way we could do all of them on ourselves. We can only do one thing at a time.

To maximally meet the needs of our listeners, we are planning to hire some professionals to help us with our recording editing and story explanation transcription. When you are listening, besides being able to enjoy a higher quality audio, you will also be able to refer to the transcript for any words or phrases that you are not familiar with. We are excited for it to happen. Meanwhile it’s a huge financial burden for us, and we already invested a ton of our own money creating new content and building out a new facility.

We want nothing more than to continue to grow and evolve, but as always we can’t do that without your help and support. Of course that includes the kind of support you’ve always given us -encouraging words through email, reviews on iTunes, and shouting us out on social media etc. But as we try to take on the next challenge, it also means that we could use your financial support, which is why we’re launching this Patreon page. Your donations will go directly into making quality podcast, along with giving you exclusive access to our story explanation transcript.

THANK YOU for continuing to spread the word about what we’re doing.

Stayed tuned !
