Leesa Love is creating a legacy

patron

Hello and Welcome!
I am writing under a Pen name that my husband chose for me, Leesa Love. My blog can be found at
leesaloveblog.com

I am married and have one, almost 20-year-old daughter, Angel.

Why Patreon?

Unless you've been in the shoes of an inmate's wife, you cannot fully understand what we go through on a daily basis. I use the term "inmate's wife" because I know what it feels like to sit on the other side of the glass and hope against all odds that you'll never have to say the "P" word. However, that wasn't the case for us. We didn't have good counsel and my psychologically disabled husband was allowed to decide his own fate, which for us is many, many years apart!

I haven't seen my husband in 14 months. He is, in fact, my husband. I know that term gets tossed around often on the inside. We had just celebrated our 3rd year married and honestly, I thought we had our issues, but I didn't know that he had spiraled completely!

Someone who stumbled upon my work might feel the same way, in fact, I know several, women especially, who didn't know anything was wrong until it was too late. I remember watching one woman break down in the elevator and when I offered her a shoulder to cry on she told me that they'd just found out they were going to have a baby two days before his arrest! Another woman who cried on my shoulder in the parking lot was trying to process the 20-year prison sentence her boyfriend had just been handed. And now, I try each day to process the 15 years my husband was handed!

It's hard to focus on anything else but that! He isn't physically or mentally able to defend himself, so I'm constantly worried that someone will take his quirks as an insult and hurt him. He gets bullied and threatened all the time. I feel completely helpless as I sit on the outside and wait. What's been keeping me going, is documenting our journey through poetry and writing.

It's a heart-breaking journey! But when you love someone, be it a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, son, daughter, your love doesn't just stop when the cuffs go on!

Society's view of you? That changes.

I was prepared for society to condemn my husband. I wasn't prepared for society to condemn me. But, there I was homeless, living in a truck. I got by on a small container of milk and boxes upon boxes of cereal that I'd been hoarding during my coupon days! It was hard to find work.

I've opened this Patreon because, for whatever reason, God has called me to be a prison wife and He's given me words that comfort and encourage other prison wives. I worked for 2 amazing families over the past two years, but as a caregiver, children get older, families move away. My last family had to put their house up for sale after Hurricane Michael took their business down. I was their live in nanny/housekeeper with nowhere to go!

Then an amazing thing happened. God began to send people who have been touched by my creative work to fund my move into a beautiful new apartment. I am so eternally grateful to Him and to those who have helped me! I love my new home and I believe that if I wasn't so concerned with keeping it and being able to eat or stay in touch with my husband, that I could help a lot more people!

The written word has been used for generations upon generations to encourage, inspire, and entertain. I have a story inside of me that needs to be told! All I'm asking for is a chance to tell it!

Please support my writing!

Thank you,

Blessings ~
