My name is Jocelyn, but most of my mates call me Joss. I am currently in my fourth year studying Dramatic Arts, specifically focusing on the performance stream (which in other words means that I plan on being an actress when I am not working as a waitress and crying over my degree). I have recently returned from a 14-month trek throughout Europe of which I spent time studying on exchange in Edinburgh, Scotland, working at a summer camp on the Isle of Wight in England and also as an AuPair in both Italy and the Netherlands. The rest of the time was spent hitchhiking, backpacking, couchsurfing, getting fabulously and horrendously lost, and publicly humiliating myself on multiple occasions. I can officially say that I have embarrassed myself on two continents now but I don’t like to brag…

So why have I created a Patreon account for travel blogging if I plan on being an actress? Well, good sir, that is a valid question.

During this time abroad I wrote a travel blog to document my travels and what had started as a hobby and a way to keep family & friends informed, turned into a deeply ingrained passion. Being a student has left me not only in crippling debt (yay for the education system) but even more confused as to what I want to do with my life. While I have a passion for acting, I didn't realize just how much I liked writing as well until I broke out of my shell and explored the world. Creating this account will not only help fund my new passion (and possibly start a valid career) but it will also allow me to remain disciplined with my writing, which has been a struggle since university resumed.

I think everyone has approached a time in their life where they question their entire existence and wonder where they will be in 15 years. While I would love to be up onstage at the Academy Awards shaking hands with my best friend Meryl Streep and accepting an Oscar, I can also see myself travelling all over the world and sharing my experiences with others. And if that means sailing on my private yacht with my BFF Meryl, that is a compromise I'm willing to make. You might call me a dreamer, but I know that I'm not the only one.

Okay but in all seriousness, travel writing is something that I love and having people fund me to harness this passion not only encourages me to continue but helps ease the pain of being in debt, which is the biggest obstacle I'm sure every artist faces. I don't think something like this is charity when it supports something that I truly believe in. And while I won't cure cancer or solve world hunger, I will feed the soul with my humiliating embarrassments and hopeful make you all smile which is more than I could ask for.
