About

Some of the things that most inspire me about making art is how it starts conversations, brings people together, and really lifts them up.

I’m excited to create this site to connect with you: my enthusiastic supporters, students, and collectors, and also to connect you with each other, especially in this time of isolation. Let's use Patreon to create a community that includes local events (eventually) as well as virtual gatherings. In turn, this new community can help me weather this very challenging time and support me in the work that I do.

I'll share my knowledge and experience, and hope to start some interesting discussions with you! I plan to offer insight and tools to help you discover your own artistic expression, whether you are creating, collecting, or simply enjoying art. And my fabulous studio dog Jack is likely to make some appearances too (#LoveThatJackDog). He will keep us all sane.

About My Work
The fragility of nature has long been a recurring theme in my work. My paintings incorporate abstractions of nature and how they alter the world around us with the passage of time. I translate these impressions into layers of color, text and texture, capturing moments suspended in time. My work pairs modern materials with ancient technique to produce a luminous surface that captures and reflects light. The translucency of the wax creates layers of information, like the sediment of time, while stirring the senses of sight, smell, and touch.

About Me
I'm originally from Hawaii, but now I create my encaustic and mixed media paintings in Portland, Oregon. I've been teaching art workshops for over 15 years and am the author of the Embracing Encaustic book series. My paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States and my work is included in the permanent collection at the Museum of Encaustic Art. My paintings have also been published in numerous books and periodicals including American Art Collector, Authentic Visual Voices, and Professional Artist Magazine.

Goals
12 of 25 patrons
Let's get this community started! I have ideas for some really big goals later on, but now I just need to take care of the basics until I'm able to teach my classes and show in galleries again.

Help me reach this first important goal by becoming a patron at any level and I will record a video showing you some of my favorite pieces of art from my own private collection.
