"Listen" is a project I started working on in early 2014, after some pondering on what medium would suit it best. My ultimate goal is to create a comic book, but since my time is currently limited - due to a job I enjoy - I realised that the most feasible way to get this story done is to write it as a novel and illustrate it along the way. Then, who knows!

How does it work? I'll complete one or, at maximum, two chapter covers each month. Nine chapters of the text are already posted, completing the first part of the book; the second part starts November 10, 2014. For the art, please see the creations and the activity feed.

What's it about? Two historians find themselves dragged into a land grab that brings back more than ancient feuds. Or, in other words...

Listen follows the adventures of two historians whose eccentric field of expertise becomes a crucial factor in their kingdoms’ attempt to win back long-lost lands. But where they thought the worst trouble they’d encounter would be misattributed quotes and mixed-up dates, instead they’ll have to deal with realities they’d long debunked as superstition, powers they would’ve sworn were metaphorical, and people who should’ve long been dead. What does a scholar do when the most ridiculous story turns out to be true? And what's there left for a priest when the rival religion turns out to be the one that got it right?

Stick around to find out.

Current status: I have completed and posted the first part of the story, No Good Road (26,000 words) which is now being illustrated while I write the next part, Tramontane (8,000 words and counting, with the first two chapters ready to post). In the interest of quality I do not intend to upload more than two chapter covers monthly, so if you pledge support Listen will go easy on you. I plan to complete this book and its artwork by the end of 2015.

I am using Patreon as a way to manage my progress, and donations will go towards the project's domain registration and server hosting. Once the book and the chapter covers are done I might revise this goal and move towards posting comic book pages, but for now I've got a happy balance between my non-art job and my creative pursuits, and I just want to share it. Thanks for following along!

If you like the artwork I'll be more than happy to draw something by hand - in watercolour on proper quality paper - and send it to you worldwide. Any character, item, or location from this universe is fine, especially the playing cards. (Even more so if you suggest your own!)
Goals
$20 – reached! per chapter cover
I'd like to see if this can pay for another year of of its hosting & domain registration. I'll keep it up no matter what because it's fun for me to work on and consolidate my creative efforts, but it would be great if it interested people enough to be self-supporting.
