About Little City, Big Sound

Bellingham, Washington is a little city with a rich and diverse music community. At this very moment, all across town, folks are tuning their instruments, unlocking their practice spaces, and jotting down notes to a fleeting melody. Every day, musicians write emails to bookers, bar tenders slice hundreds of limes, and sound engineers coil and uncoil cable after cable. The building gets leased, the speakers get hauled in, the staff gets hired and trained. The emails get answered, the posters get printed, the lights get turned on, turned down, and then... The show begins.

Little City, Big Sound is a podcast exploring the many voices of Bellingham's music community. From buskers and bandleaders to bookers and bartenders, host David Pender Lofgren interviews the folks who make music, and make music possible, in our little city. By hearing more than just music from your favorite local players and by creating a platform to hear from those who work behind the bars and behind the scenes, this project aims to generate a greater sense of empathy for the struggle that is inherent in committing oneself to the pursuit of an artistic life and a shared sense of purpose between the artist, the audience, and the industry that supports that relationship.

Becoming a Patron of Little City, Big Sound helps to ensure that these conversations will continue and that our music community will continue to flourish. Every episode of the show is free to listen to and that will always be the case, but the show is not free to produce. Our overhead expenses include domain and content hosting fees, social media outreach, audio equipment, and studio time in addition to the many hours required to research, record, edit, mix, and release each episode. We would love to grow this program to a point where we can produce episodes more frequently, create live events and educational opportunities, and continue to expand the coverage of our incredible arts community. The only way this will be possible is with continued support from listeners.

Thank you for doing your part to help our community grow and flourish!
