My name is April Dávila. I created the LitWeekLA to promote the many, many literary events happening in and around the great, creative city of Los Angeles. Because books. And Writers.

Every week, I check the websites of every bookstore, museum, and literary non-profit in the greater Los Angeles area to compile THE comprehensive list of fiction readings happening in and around town.

Every day, I tweet to my 15,000 followers about the events happening that night so that folks can get a heads-up before they miss anything epic. (follow the hashtag #LitWeekLA, or follow me at @aprildavila)

I also take the time to email every local writer who is featured in the update to let them know that they're part of this community and that there are people out here who care and are excited that they are sharing their work with the world.

Why Patreon?

Some weeks, compiling the LitWeekLA update is an easy task (*cough* Christmas), but on average it takes about four hours. At times I've considered getting a day job at a bookstore to augment my income as a writer, but that would defintely mean giving up the LitWeekLA, and I just don't want to do that. So... Patreon.

My goal is to cover my expenses, including a respectable hourly wage for the work I put into it. At 4 hours a week, that's 16 hours a month. At $18 an hour (just slightly above LA's soon-to-be minimum wage) that's $288 a month. Add in hosting expenses and a few hours here and there paid to my awesome (but not cheap) coder, and my total operating costs come to approximately $350 a month.

Thank you so much for your support.
