I NEVER IMAGINED...

I never imagined how amazing and inspiring Love Her Wild would become! I set up the community to provide opportunities and support to help ordinary women, like me, find more adventure in their lives. The outdoor world can be quite judgemental and competitive. I wanted to create a space where women, regardless of confidence and abilities, could gain the benefits of going on adventures. To learn compassion for ourselves, for others and the planet....while having a bit of fun and making friends in the process!

In the time since launching, Love Her Wild has achieved lots. Amongst other things, we have been on expeditions all over the world - some seasoned and some first-time adventurers. We've tackled plastic pollution, learnt bushcraft, had 5 successful mentor partnerships and inspired many more to take their first steps to achieve their adventure whatever shape that may take.

But the best part is the loving community of women in our private Facebook group. We don't judge. We encourage, support and celebrate. And that's pretty special!

THE REALITY OF RUNNING LOVE HER WILD

It's time for me to be transparent, as I always promise to be!

There is a lot of work that goes into running Love Her Wild...doing interviews, website maintenance, administrating the group, organising logistics for new adventures and expeditions, planning events, sorting out the legalities of it all (groan)....to name a few!!

If you don't know me yet, I'm Bex Band (that's me below!) and I have almost single-handedly been running Love Her Wild since it launched. It has become a full-time, often stressful, sleepless-night, job and before Patreon actually costs me money to run.

Early 2017 I made a big decision to pull out of an adventure I was planning to do and to take a backseat on my own blog and career so that I could give Love Her Wild all the energy and time it deserves.

I haven't regretted it for a second. It's been an incredible journey and I'm so honoured to be a part of our amazing group. But I need to make this sustainable so the community can keep going and growing. Which basically translates to making money.

I NEED YOUR HELP

I didn't want to put up a paywall. Love Her Wild should be open to everyone regardless of circumstances. Rather than setting up a compulsory membership, I wanted to put in place an optional one.

If you think Love Her Wild is providing value in your lives or the lives of others, and you are able to become a member then you can choose to become a Patreon.

Look at it as a risk-free membership. You get to be a fully fledged member of the Love Her Wild community and only decide to become a Patreon if you think I am delivering what I promise. And you can cancel at any time. No pressure!

That's not all....not only will your support be helping to keep the community going, but you will also get special rewards and benefits saved just for our Patreon supporters. Check out the different tier options to see what rewards are available.

Patreon allows me to continue focusing on the things that make Love Her Wild unique that don't earn a penny, just time invested in making them happen. For example....

- a supportive and safe Facebook community
- free monthly local meet-ups as well as expedition opportunities you can apply to
- more mentoring programs matching experienced adventurers with those starting out
- complimentary spaces on our adventures and expeditions via our Deserving Women Scheme (set up to help women who are in need of support right now - financial struggles, experiencing loss, ill health, etc)
- annual Love Her Wild Weekend so members can get some head space
- conservation focused expeditions.....we like to help the planet!
- more advice and inspiration on the website geared specifically for women in adventure
- launching Love Her Wild ambassador of the year

WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT ON?

Quite rightly you want to know where your money will be going. Here's how it will be spent. My hope is that eventually, I can build enough Patreon's that all of these costs will be almost entirely covered, with the rest of the incoming being made up from profits made from our larger paid for expeditions.

  • Hosting and domain for our website
  • MailChimp to keep everyone up-to-date via our regular newsletters
  • Insurance so we can run our events and expeditions safely
  • Web development because there is always something that isn't working properly!!!
  • Deserving Women Scheme to cover the costs involved so that our adventures and expeditions can be brought to a wider range of women in need
  • A salary to myself for the time it takes to admin the group, organise trips, market our community so more women can benefit, amongst other responsibilities - I need to eat and (although I'm currently nomadic) eventually I'd like to be able to afford a roof over my head :)
  • An additional employee this is when Love Her Wild moves to the next level and I can bring in an additional person to help run the community!

Thank you for reading and I really hope I will be welcoming you to our Patreon community :)

As always, drop me an email if you have any questions or if you'd just like to say 'hi' - [email protected]

There are 2 things I can help you with...

1. Building and growing a brand or blog

In the space of a year, I have grown Love Her Wild to 4,500+ members. Within 10 months of launching, my own blog (www.theOrdinaryAdventurer.com) was receiving 7,000 unique monthly visitors and combined I have a social media following of over 8,000. I now get paid work speaking or delivering events, organising expeditions and via affiliate programs. I came second place in Outdoor Blogger of the Year 2017 and have been shortlisted for TGO Personality of the Year.

And I really did start from nothing. No network or contacts. Which is why I know you can do it too :)

I love nothing more than working with like-minded individuals to inspire their growth. I will spend time getting to know you and your website and where you want to take it. Can provide advice on different areas including SEO, social media and getting sponsorship opportunities (either products or services - like free hotel stays or activities). Monetising your website and making money through affiliates and advertising. As well as some inside tips on what has worked for me.

2. Adventuring

Firstly, being accountable is a fantastic way to ensure your adventure happens...so let that be me! I'd love to help you come up with an idea (I've got lots!) if you haven't already, put into action the planning and what needs to happen before leaving for your expedition. I can offer tips on logistics as well as saving, getting sponsorship or reducing costs in other ways (free accommodation or discounts) and also on charity fundraising (I've raised over £20,000 for charity from challenges I have done). Plus, often the more important things, like confidence and building skills.

If you have any questions or want to run ideas past me before committing, feel free to drop me an email: [email protected]

Goals
$511 of $1,000 per month
Reaching this goal will be life-changing and will really take the pressure off! This amount would cover all the costs involved in running the community (hosting, domain, Mailchimp, insurance, etc) and would provide me with some income.
