Low-tech Magazine questions the belief in technological progress and highlights the potential of past knowledge and technologies when it comes to designing a sustainable society. Low-tech Magazine was founded in 2007 and publishes an average of twelve well-researched articles per year.

Because a web redesign was long overdue — and because we try to practice what we preach — we decided to build a new low-tech website that aims to radically reduce the energy use associated with accessing our content. The new blog runs on a self-hosted server that's powered by a solar panel on the balcony of the author's home.

Advertising services do not fit in this low-tech web design, so we make the jump to a reader-sponsored publication.

- reports of on-going research projects

We eliminate all advertising on Low-tech Magazine and No Tech Magazine. The new solar powered website is already without advertising, the old (grid-powered) blogs still run advertisements for the moment.
