Hi, I'm Catherine Lucktaylor welcome to my Patreon page and thanks for taking the time to check it out!
I create handbuilt Raku Fired Ceramics. I mainly use the coiling technique and Raku fire my ceramics in a kiln I made myself! I would love to create more ambitious work, large statement pots and sculptural ceramics drawing inspiration from my African ancestry and combining it with my love of the Cornish landscape.

I have always been creative, from playing with plasticine and play-doh as a kid, to painting and discovering clay as a teenager. I am also fiercely independent and left school at 16 to do a 2-year Foundation Course in Art and Design at Huddersfield Tech. It was here that I made my first ever coil pot and fell in love with the technique. I felt an immediate connection to my African ancestors ( I am half Ghanaian & half British). This was something I had been searching for my whole life! I immersed myself in ceramics going on to do a BA (Hons) at Wolverhampton Poly and specialising in hand-building and low firing techniques.

Over the years I have always worked in the arts, teaching art to adults with mental health problems, working on the Decibel project at Arts Council England, I even did a Curatorial Internship at Modern Art Oxford! Alongside all my many jobs I have always had my own art practise and in 1999 I was awarded a Travelling Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. I travelled to West Africa and Brazil in search of sacred art and I was particularly interested in three Orisha (nature spirits), Yemoja, Oshun and Oya. All water goddesses. My project In Search of Sweet Waters led to several exhibitions including one I curated and exhibited with Irene Mensah and Rafael Berrio called Sanctuary.

The reason I am telling you all this is because I want to use my Patreon Page to make big changes in my creative life and I would love to share the journey with you! After the birth of my son, Leon in 2007 and a move to Cornwall I immersed myself in the Cornish landscape and began creating handbuilt Raku fired pots and have built up my business which I am very proud of and now sell my ceramics in several galleries in Cornwall & Scotland.

Last year my son's father sadly passed away after a long illness and following an intense grieving process and supporting my 11-year-old son during this sad time, I have had time to reflect on where I am heading next. I want to bring joy and beauty to the world and create an inspiring and inspired life for those around me.

With your support, I can take risks and try new things and you will be the first to see what I create and also see behind the scenes exclusive content of my creative process. Whether you are a lover of Raku ceramics, a collector or a maker I will be creating exciting content just for my Patrons.

You can see more of my creations on my website  www.lucktaylorceramics.co.uk
