Student Loans
I can pay my monthly student loan repayments (plus above milestone).
Public Domain Art
I will release one piece of art in the public domain (free for anyone to use without attribution) per month, for use in games, videos, or whatever, in addition to my games. This may be in the form of a texture, a sprite sheet, a piece of music (which I make rarely during game jams), or whatever. I may take requests. We'll see.
Commissioned Music
I will be able to commission music from other artists for my games. (plus above milestones)
Transportation
Anything above this means I can get myself to events and expos where I'm able to meet and work with people! That sounds super great!
Larger Scoped Games
My long-term projects will be able to be larger in scope. I will be able to add extra gameplay content, extra art or animations, or extra areas.
BUTTS
I will hide a butt somewhere in every game I make!
I will also be able to focus solely on developing games (instead of having to find extra work) and be able to purchase tools to help broaden my skills (currently saving for a Surface Pro 3 for on-the-road development), and also support other developers.
But uh... BUTTS!

Hi!My name is Diane Mueller, and I am an independent game developer and pixel artist. I create one game per month, alternating between mid-sized projects that may span over a few months, and small jam-games that take a week or less. I have created award-winning games such as Cadence and Five Suns (which were collaborative works and are available for free!). My background in games is academic, but my approach is non-traditional; my creations include things like a Norse slam-poetry simulator, an adventure game about a wounded butterfly, a hugging game, and more.
Here's some of the stuff I've worked on!

Fragile Soft Machines is an alternative adventure game driven by player choices about a butterfly with a torn wing, and was developed on my own.

EDDA is a Nordic Slam Poetry Simulator which was created for Ludum Dare 32 with the theme "Unconventional Weapon." I was the sole developer on this project

Five Suns is an isometric dungeon crawler set during an Aztec creation myth. Guide two children’s imaginary selves through a crumbling world and utilize incenses to activate special abilities that are unique to each character.
This was a student project at Savannah College of Art and Design in 2014. I was team lead, designer, and scripter.
Five Suns won Best 2D Game during the 2014 Entelechy Awards Show, a showcase of the best Interactive and Game Design projects at SCAD, and the IndieBits Prettibyte Award for Best Design in 2015.

Cadence follows a child recently diagnosed with a chronic illness through their stages of grief in a platformer where vision is limited to the character’s heartbeat.
This game was made by a team of nine for Global Game Jam 2013, and won the IndieBits Gravibyte Award for Best Humanities Game in 2014. I was team lead and scripter for this project.

My current project: Visual Out

Visual Out is my current long-term project, which will be completed over the course of a couple of months with smaller projects being made along the way. It is an explorative platformer set in the mind of a dying computer. Patreon funds will go towards commissioning music for the game and adding extra gameplay elements such as new abilities or puzzles. Backers will see an inside look at this project and have access to a Trello where they can see live task completion updates.
I chose Patreon because I want to continue delivering a mix of free and purchasable games month-to-month. However, this method isn't sustainable without help. My goals are to have enough income to pay each month of my student loans from getting a degree in game development at SCAD, and to help support myself and my partner, Let's Player NakaTeleeli. In return, all patrons get access to in-depth updates where I will also talk about my approach to making games, as well as anything I learn along the way. Higher tiers of patronage will receive bonus rewards, like early access to games or personalized pixel art.
Thank you so much for your support.
