About me

My name is Maja, I'm 24 years old. 2 years ago I graduated from college and started working straight away. As many people in my age, younger and older, I always wanted to live differently from how the education system wanted me to. I don't want to spend all my life working in a way that is not my passion, earning money just to mindlessly spend them, but it seems that this society system supports only this kind of life. I'm often told that I have to accept it and if I don't, it's just because I'm young and don't know reality. Well, I believe that we create our own reality and I know that there are many of us who don't accept the way things are, and we will be the ones change what need to be changed.

I was always very connected to nature and concerned about our environment and planet, so naturally I found out about permaculture, I started to learn, found more people, communities and projects. With that kind of global community of people who are just as passionate as I am about living in touch with nature and other people, about caring for each other, I'm even more sure that we can make it – be truly happy.

About the project
I am taking part in a project called PeDreTea (Permaculture Dream Team), which was proposed by people involved in creating an eco-village on La Palma (en.8thlife.org), since they have extra land available, they noticed there are lots of people wanting to change their lives in this way, and it would be great if a group filmed their first year of adventures so they can be shared in an ‘Eco Big Brother’ type of documentary. We think it is a great way of teaching Permaculture in new ways and supporting people in transition.

So this is an experiment aimed to see for ourselves how an eco-village is created, and help others to see it.

We are gathering a group of people from all around the world, from various environments, most of them didn't know each other before, we are the ones to organize and facilitate our group to create and learn.

In March 2016 (or as soon as we get the whole team together)we are going to arriveon site for one year to create a sustainable mini-settlement and move our team towards becoming a community.

We will use the documentation (mainly via vlogging, blogs, online meetings with supporters, etc.) to observe ourselves, the processes we have to go through to shift from one way of living to another and maybe even more – to see if and how it can be done.

We’re excited about putting the permaculture theory we already know (and whatever we will discover we need to know) into practice and we want to share everything we learn, in real time, with everyone who wants to support & share this process with us, including people who can help to guide us with their experience or those who are wanting to gain this kind of experience, but currently can’t leave their jobs or families. We hope to inspire more people to making the bold moves needed to change society for future generations!

About 8th Life eco village project
PeDreTea project website

Why is it important?
To inspire. I know too many great people who are trapped in unfulfilling lives like mine used to be, who want to escape, to live differently and more in line with our true values … but don't believe it's possible.

With this project we can show real-life examples of people who have and are changing their lives.

I hope with my own example I can not only show that this is possible but also expose all the personal processes that come with stepping out of the comfort zone. I want to show you the problems I encounter and the way I deal with them.

I'm ready to throw myself into unknown to prove that I can make my dreams come true and that I am no different in this than anyone else.

Budget

What do I need money for?

1. Our group will be contributing to the land upon which we will live and build. This land already has an outdoor kitchen, solar shower and compost toilet plus forest-gardens started and space for creating more vegetable gardens for our food. Also we can use the next-door’s community’s library with internet connection, and they will advise us as needed. The cost for all that is just 100€ per person per month

2. Food, until we grow our own. Estimated 50€ per person per month.

3. Additional costs: transport around the island, additional materials for the many projects we want to undertake (building eco-houses, compost toilets, garden, solar panels etc.). Obviously we will try to upcycle everything, but what we can't we have to buy. We estimate another 50€ per person per month.

So the minimum I need for myself to contribute in supporting our group is 200€ per month for a year, a total of 2,400€ and that is what I am crowd-funding for. I have enough savings to finance my transport and some personal costs.

What are you contributing to?

First of all making dreams come true! And some of the most important dreams we need to make reality in our current times. Not only mine and the dream of the group I will live with, but those of many many lost people around the world who need inspiration and guidance to make their first step towards living a more sustainable life, and so making this Earth more sustainable for all of us. The purpose of this project is just this – share the feeling and practice of unlimited possibilities of our capability to do what we feel is right.

You will be contributing to co-creating the 8th Life eco-village project, together with our team, as the PeDreTea project will be advancing some of the infrastructure work on site, as well as expanding their existing practical permaculture education work with the documenting of our experience. You would be part of our online support team and apart from the financial investment we very much welcome your expertise or advice as we progress with the project.

What do you get in return?
By helping me with funding this project, you will become a part of our community which besides the on-site team includes also supporters and followers who did not manage to join us on La Palma but co-create the project from distance thanks to the wonderful gift of the internet.

For your contribution, I will give you access to my blog, vlogs, updates and more depending on the option you choose

I share with you for free my blog and vlogs until I come to the site, you can read and watch them here, in my public posts
