Hello and welcome!

About me:
I'm a full-time artist specialized in the ancient Kufic script, which I shape into word mandalas or hand-written patterns. The driving theme behind my work is remembrance of a larger and immutable reality, beyond our daily experiences and tribulations. It is therefore infused with archetypal themes, often drawn from Sufism with its universal message of love; geometry, the system of relationships that holds all things together; and also cosmology, mapping the symbolic universe and our place in it.
Over the past few years I moved away from synthetic and plastic materials to embrace the alchemy of natural materials. I use age-old methods of extracting pigment and experiment with what I can forage locally to make most of my paints and tools in my studio. These primal, often unpredictable materials are becoming a signature part of my art, grounding it firmly in our beloved Earth.

Why Patreon?
My work is posted on my portfolio website, and I use instagram to share sneak peeks of works in progress, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. The details of my creation processes, thought processes, experiments and discoveries, don't make it online because they're simultaneously scrap book and diary, not for public sharing. Similarly, videos and tutorials don't get made simply because there is so much to do, and so little time, that I hardly know where to begin allocating time for them. I started this Patreon to solve this conundrum.

By subscribing* to this page, you get insider access to all the content I don't wish to share on the open web: early planning and sketches, confidential projects, how I prepare materials, my inspirations, even my failures. But you also get to request information, recipes, tutorials, insights and whatever you'd like to see that pertains to my work, or questions you may have about art in general. The more subscribers, the more time I can spend preparing material that can be useful to everyone.

Subscribing also makes you a part of my creative journey, helping me bring more a little more beauty and magic into the world. In former times, the artist was responsible for society's mental well-being. This is long forgotten, but I think we still know it instinctively: Art is not a luxury but a basic necessity. As our bodies need food, our souls need beauty and remembrance, especially in these fragmented times. Thank you for keeping this alive!

* Don't hesitate to join for only a short while, or to pause your pledge when you need to. There is no obligation and I appreciate every contribution, including comments. If you're not clear how Patreon works, check out this short video.
