A cinematic exploration of a shifting place & time.

The inaugural Margate Film Festival launched 3rd – 7th October 2018 featuring new works from local artists, live performances, debut features from British and International filmmakers, shorts, archive footage, live film scores, talks, family workshops and more.

The festival has over 15 events across 6 venues and 5 days.

We have been humbled by the creativity and community spirit of Margate, of all the individuals who have chipped in their time and skills to make the project come to life. A festival of this size is a huge effort, weeks of work, and lot of financial risk and yet - it's entirely unfunded, unsponsored, non-profiting and carried by a small team of voluntary enthusiasts.

We don't intend to squash our ambitions just yet. In fact, the festival is just a start - we have MUCH bigger plans to come.

Our Aims:
- We want to build a community with Margate's interests at heart; to bring people together through film. Cinema is about more than what's on screen, it's about the joint experiences and the knock on effects, whether that's educational, inspirational or just joyful experiences.
- To improve regional access and opportunities in the film industry and bring the film circuit to Margate.
- To bring better arts funding to the South East and develop Margate's visual arts culture.
- To host year-round film screenings across Thanet.
- To hone local talents and connect artists together.
- To commission new short films set in Margate/Thanet.
- To bring together the community for collaborative cultural events that go beyond cinema (not like we have one anyway!)

Why We Need Patrons:
Patrons are our core supporters, the first people we consult about developments and those who have an active interest in the future of the project. We are doing this together. You don't need to contribute with money, but those who do help:
- cover our running costs; for the little things like web hosting and marketing budgets, or the coffee meetings, festival special guest's travel expenses, all the way to designers fees and office space.
- commission new works; from live film scores to festival posters to short films.
- work towards paying staff at least Living Wage to run the festival, so they can dedicate more time and energy to the above aims. That's why everyone is here, right? And not just the team - but to pay each and every artist/musician/filmmaker who works on future festivals (post coming soon on this!)

But that's not only where your money goes. Being a Patron helps us cover our costs so we can work on the Big Funding Applications. To get where we want to go, we need a LOT more funding. Your contributions will help us secure that and show the big bodies that Margate deserves this!

How YOU Can Help:
With the festival kicking off in October, we see this as a new starting point. Your support will be a huge influence in the direction of the festival and our year-round activity. We'll want to hear from you, and we'll keep you up to date with progress and news. We need a bit of a push up this initial hill but once we're rolling we aim to add membership benefits; more events year-round, early bird & discount access, merchandise and more.

Your support enables us to do what we do best. Each contribution, however small, helps in developing local arts and contributing to the community and area.

We hope you'll join our journey.

A small monthly amount - think of it like a cinema membership but instead of tickets, you're developing the arts community and enabling a platform for film to grow in the South East. You'll also be the first to hear news and be invited to Patron-only meet ups.

A more substantial supporting fund, which will go a long way to help cover all our basic costs. With this kind of help, we can cover our office space, online fees, and rely less on making a profit from ticket sales. We'll put your name on our website and we'll also have some thank-you goodies coming soon!

Invest in the festival now and help kick-start a much bigger project. Your name (or company name) will go on our website and your contribution will allow us to expand our audience reach, dedicate more time to developing community ventures and give our future events the security of a financial float.
Goals
$35 of $150 per month
Without this level of support, running the festival is a financial risk. Our events are non-profit, so any additional costs must be sourced elsewhere. If we can raise a modest amount each month, spread across the year we can afford all the basics; web hosting & fees, ongoing marketing costs, travelling to meetings/other festivals to build partnerships. A small amount  goes a long way! (it also helps us offer discounts for carers).
