About

What Do You Call That Noise? The XTC Podcast is the show that gets under the skin of XTC, Swindon's finest musical exports. It brings band members and fans together in a celebration of everything from White Music to Wasp Star – and beyond.

The episodes are great fun to do and there are more on the way. Colin Moulding and Andy Partridge have already made appearances and I have my sights set on similarly prestigious guests for episodes to come. That's in addition to lively discussion from fellow XTC fans.

The podcast does involve work, however, and I'd like your support not only to keep it going – but also to make it as good as possible.

A small monthly contribution would buy me time to track down guests, conduct interviews and put together a polished podcast worthy of such a great band. You might not miss £5 from your monthly budget, but it would make all the difference to the podcast. I am a freelance journalist and every contribution you make enables me to focus my work exactly where it should be: on the fabulous music of XTC.

That also includes allowing me time to work on future XTC books. While still at school, I set up the XTC fanzine Limelight, which ran for ten years from 1982. Thirty-five years later, I compiled the fanzines into a single anthology as The XTC Bumper Book of Fun for Boys and Girls, which Prog Magazine called "the most comprehensive and incisive book about XTC yet published."

I followed that up with What Do You Call That Noise? An XTC Discovery Book, a musicians'-eye view of the band, which Louder than War said was "the perfect overview of one of British music's most fascinating, essential but also elusive bands".

In 2020, I launched What Do You Call That Noise? The XTC Podcast, which was downloaded more than 500 times in its first month. It'd be fantastic if you could help me keep it going.

Whether you opt to be a Pink Thing, a Humble Daisy or a Knight in Shining Karma, you are helping keep the podcast alive – and I thank you so much for your support.
