About Yan Zhulanow

Hello! I am Yan, the creator of Marta.

After switching to Mac, I missed a decent dual-pane file manager. Although there are several options available on the market, I didn't find anything good enough in terms of performance, extensibility, and user experience. So I decided to take the initiative and fill the gap.

Marta is already available. Here're some facts you might like about it:

  • Marta is a Swift application. It feels native, and it works really smooth.
  • Being keyboard-centric, Marta is a perfect choice for power users.
  • I'm not aware of any other macOS file manager which provides a comparable level of customization. There're a lot of things you can tune.
  • There's a built-in terminal.
  • Marta provides Lua API. Even if you feel something is missing, it is easy to create a plugin.

I started developing Marta three years ago as a pet project. Since that time, I got a lot of positive feedback from users all over the world. I was pleased to receive kind words about the app I put so much time and effort into.

Many people asked me why I do not sell Marta. There is a simple answer – I do not want to sell promises. There are plans to turn the app into a paid product – but not earlier than it becomes truly polished. It may sound like a disaster for a salesperson – fortunately, I am an engineer. :)
However, a lot of you asked about ways to donate, so I opened a page on Patreon. Your subscription will definitely support the sustainable development of the file manager.

Also, if/when Marta becomes a paid product, every subscriber who donated at least $15 over the time will receive a perpetual license with free updates. Yet, who knows the future. My goal is not to make a lot of money, but to create an awesome application. If donations from Patreon will be enough, there is a possibility that Marta will stay free forever.

Thank you for using Marta! I am looking forward to your support! ☀️
