"The purpose of art would be to capture Beauty,                       if not for the wondrous fact that Beauty itself throws the net."

Welcome to Patreon and Masa Rasa Studios!  I am an artist in search of support for my work.

Cornfield: An Artstory is a multimedia installation of painting, sculpture, design, and the written word, themed on Spirituality, Environment, and Art. It is a visual mythology, an Artstory, and weaves a tapestry of these various elements together as You, the Subject, stand at the center of the show. Cornfield is a show that above all else reflects the understanding that you are, as is everyone, the origin of art and truth, the blissful center of the universe. It celebrates a world with centers everywhere and circumferences nowhere - a play of Art and Consciousness.

A short bio:

I grew up in Oklahoma.   Yeehaw!

Came of age and went to school in Michigan.   Go Blue!

Met a great Teacher in the mountains of New York.    Babaji!

Whom I followed to India . . . . Guru Om

The Guru gave me everything I asked for.    I bow and touch your feet.

I got married and raised a family in California.     Hallelujah!!

I created a lot of art, and planted a Cornfield.    Ah . . . Yes

And here it is on Patreon.  For the most part the creative process of this work is finished, yet I bring the work alive again every time I see it.   A resurrection! . . a remembrance of all the thought and feeling that went into each work . . . each painting, each drawing, each sculpture. You can also bring this work alive, if you so choose.  Go ahead, it’s free!  Create your very own Cornfield It's  about Consciousness, and you are That.

If you would enjoy supporting this artist, there’s always that option here on Patreon. And if you would like me to make art for you, then there is this offering . . . a drawing, a painting, a ceramic sculpture, a discount on a large bronze . . . you tell me what you want.

If you’d be so kind, pick whatever level of financial support you would enjoy giving. I will be your artist (at least one of them :) and will be thrilled to create for you whatever you want, within reason. Instead of a reward, let’s make it a beautiful exchange.

So welcome, everyone. Let me know your thoughts, and please enjoy the Cornfield.

Apotheosis Of The Corn Goddess    84"h x 60"w  oil on linen

Cornfield has three main thematic components.  First, Cornfield is anchored in the awareness of Consciousness, the life we all share, with Maize as the primary symbol for that awareness.  Second, the work plays with ideas about art and what aesthetic experience means. Is aesthetic experience truly the twin of God, as stated in the Indian Scriptures?  Something to contemplate.  And third, Cornfield is grounded in a fundamental understanding of the ways of nature, recognizing the beauty of our environment and the need for its preservation through non-violence.  We truly live when we honor and protect our home through peace.

Two beautiful friends wrote these words about Cornfield when it was partially exhibited years ago, words for which I am very grateful:

The work on display at Jim Nichols' Cornfield exhibit reflects a message which is close to the artist's heart. It is life accepted, both as toil and as radiant beauty. It is a celebration of life's path, and of the magic and patience and fruit inherent in each seed. He imbues it all with a sense of the mystical and of the essence from which it all comes and will eventually return. This is art that asks us to set aside the burden, and to transcend. Cornfield is drawn from the depth and skill of an artist, but foremost from a man who understands the beauty of the journey we all share.

There is something mystical about corn. It is older than memory and so conjures up lure of gods and legends. Yet corn is also a simple, grinding staple of life. In his thought-provoking "Cornfield," Jim Nichols has somehow been able to capture the essence of both the surreal and mundane, the ancient and the modern of this ubiquitous grain we take for granted. In doing so, he prompts us to reconsider the earth and its bounty and our spiritual connections to Godhead. The multimedia aspects of the installation remind us we are God-like creators, while the vivid imagery of his paintings remind us we are creatures designed by the very same intelligent force. Beautiful and moving.

Goals
$124 of $1,700 per month
www.cornfield.org

•  I'm wishing to raise the amount of $1,700 per month to cover rent for studio space, studio assistance, art supplies, shipping, printing costs, materials, and expenses.  If I raise a significantly larger amount per month, it will make it possible to to acquire a larger studio space, vital to the completion of the work.

•  Over the period of a year, complete all the paintings and design for Cornfield, and create an illustrated volume expanding and summarizing the work, which will include the Cornfield Storyboard.

•  Soon after the book is completed, there will be a public showing of the paintings, sculpture, and ideas that have grown out of the process.   If funding is available and sufficient, then the entire installation will be realized.  Come . . . and we will build it!

Additionally, I plan to create a written narrative weaving a story with the characters and art of Cornfield, and storyboarding the Cornfield Movie for the purpose of making a longer and higher quality film.  I will be seeking collaborators and kindred spirits for the completion of that work.
