MascotDB.com is creating a sports team name database

MascotDB.com is a searchable database for team names of high schools, colleges, and professional sports. It is also one of the largest repositories of sports logos and social media  links. We currently have over 48,000 sports team names in our database, from teams past and present. Our site has been used as a source for articles on the continued use of Native American-related team names and mascots.

So who are "we"? This site was created and developed by Terry Borning, a Web/CMS developer at Arizona State University. I am (and always have been) a one-person operation, curating site content in my spare time. Sports team names have been an interest of mine since my young days in Minnesota, where Kilowatts, Quartziters, Scrappers and Loggers roamed the local athletic arenas. I created the website in 2006 to help preserve history as all of these team names were retired due to school consolidation.

What used to be a small site hosted on a shared server for a few dollars a month has grown into a need for a high-speed, reliable server which costs over 100 dollars monthly. I'm hoping to help crowd-source the cost of this project to keep it sustainable. I'd also welcome crowd-sourcing of information, as many teams (especially high schools) were phased out prior to the ubiquity of the World Wide Web.

When I reach $125/month, I'll be able to support this website with zero out-of-pocket costs.
