About Matt Mansfield

What will you get if you become my patron?
What's in it for you? Great question!

When you become my patron, you'll get access to one slice-of-life essay per week. You'll never know what's in store - one essay may tickle your funny bone while the next touches your heartstrings. The only thing you can be sure of is that they won't be boring!

But wait, there's more - check out the
pledge-level rewards at the bottom of this page!

How do you become my patron?
Another great question - you're on a roll!

The easiest way to learn how to become my patron is by watching this quick video that walks you through the steps.

There's one difference between that video and becoming my patron - instead of paying per month, you'll be paying per essay. Don't worry about your wallet however, you can cap the amount you give every month so you'll never pay more than you want.

Who am I?
My name is Matt Mansfield and I've got a lot to write about.

Over my 47 years, I've been and done a lot of things. I'm a serious dilettante (how's that for an oxymoron?) who loves to dive in and figure out everything about one thing. Once I've got it down, it's time to move on to the next one thing. Yep, much to the frustration of my parents, my wife, my kids and every boss and manager I've ever had, it's hard for me to stay on one topic long.

I live in a very busy household full to bursting with my wife, four children, two in-laws and one dog. It's never quiet around here which certainly makes working at home an interesting experience (and one that feeds the story-mill non-stop).

My kids and I are inveterate geeks. As my oldest Max likes to say, we're "general geeks" meaning we've got lots of interests ranging from video games to anime, manga and reading reading science fiction and fantasy. I'll pit my library against yours any day.

My wife Mimi is not a geek but tolerates us well. We've been married since 1992 and are disgustingly in love to this day. Recently we've begun passing regency romances back and forth, a development that's lead to interesting results for us both.

I've got opinions. A lot of them. On a lot of topics. That doesn't mean that I'm close-minded though - I love hearing what others have to say and pass many a happy hour arguing discussing points of view with friends and family (and sometimes with the dog - he always wins).

What am I trying to do here?
Since I was a kid, I've wanted to be two things: a chef and a writer.

These days, I cook dinner every night and with eight people in the house, that's all the chef work I want. As far as writing, it took me a while, but I'm finally getting down to it.

Writing's always been a part of what I do (you should read my epic emails), and in 2014, I self-published a non-fiction book about content marketing. But it's time to live my dream and as of October 1, 2015, I'm more than 40,000 words into my first fiction novel (go me!).

Writing a novel is every bit the thrill ride I thought it would be. I'm building worlds, meeting characters and spinning their tales and frankly, I need a break every now and then. That's what Free Flowing Chaos is all about.

Here on Patreon, I'm stretching my writing muscles in a whole different way. No plots, no characters, just real-world stories about life.

Come on board and let's take this journey together. After all, you'll never know who you'll meet or where you'll visit!

Once we reach this goal, then Free Flowing Chaos will be well and truly launched and I can keep the essays coming knowing that I have your support. Thank you!!
