My name is Max Eremine and I am a traveling portrait photographer and educator. Basically I travel the world, photograph people, and teach photography in between the shoots.

I see myself as a sort of an underground-indie-anti-mainstream-guerilla photographer :) Mostly because it sounds really cool :) But also because I am 100% independent, because I am entirely self-taught (which means I have predominantly learned from practice, although I did also learn a great deal from books, podcasts, tutorials, etc.), because I do not affiliate myself with any brands or artistic movements, because I strongly belong to the equipment-doesn't-matter camp of photography educators, and finally because I simply like going against the grain a little. I like finding "wrong" ways to do something and making it work, or making high end looking images with DIY filters/light modifiers. I've shot nationally distributed magazine covers with no team, zero prep work, one cheap tungsten light, and old plastic blinds from the recycle bin for light modifier. That's the style of work I enjoy doing the most, and that's the style work that I teach here.

Nowadays, virtually all of my shoots are paid client shoots. Which means that I usually have a very, very limited amount of time to deliver a (hopefully) stellar image, or two, or ten. Through this experience I developed a particular work style, that is based on improvisation and going with the flow. I believe improvisational approach to photography really opens up its creative possibilities and makes photography simply more enjoyable. I believe a beautiful portrait image can be made in any light, with any equipment, and with any model. The lighting, props, wardrobe, location, and the subject can make it easier or harder, but it is always there. For me it's similar to a Judo match - I do not resist the circumstances, and instead try to use them to my advantage. It's really all there for the taking, if one learns how to recognize it, see it, and execute it.

This Patreon started as more of a Photo Tutorial blog, but nowadays it developed into something more. In addition to old style tutorials, technical details, lighting diagrams, post-processing techniques, and photography business tips, I am now predominantly concentrating on screen capture videos where I discuss in depth how I made some of my images, what is the logic behind my creative and technical decisions, the before and after comparisons, how I retouched the images, etc. It's basically a window into my creative process.

My videos do not have minute long intros with catchy music or high production value. I am more about the content than the fluff. I am also not sponsored by any fancy equipment manufacturers, so I won't be pushing the latest something or other on you. Hell, half the time I personally work with cheap speedlights and household flashlights. Photography is not about equipment or lighting diagrams, it's about vision, and meaning, and experimentation, and creative insight... and having a jolly good time while doing it :)

Thank you for joining me!

Tiers
$5 Tier
$5 or more per month
Access to patron only content and events such as:
  • Access to over 100 Exclusive posts. New posts are added on an ongoing basis. The posts include detailed Image Tutorials that include camera EXIF info, equipment list, lighting diagrams and/or detailed explanation as to how the images were made. Also gear advice, photography business tips and tricks, Retouching Screen Capture Videos, and Creative Process Podcasts and Videos.
  • Photoshop Actions and Lightroom Presets downloads along with some explanation as to how I use them
  • Access to Private Facebook Group which includes an honest vote based critique album, where I along with other members will critique your images.
  • And here is the kicker... As a special thank you for my current continuous Patreon supporters - 100% of the money you pay can be applied as credit for my group workshops.*

* There is no expiration date for the credit and the only catch is that you have to be a current continuous subscriber. Unsubscribing zeroes out accumulated credit. Credit does not have cash value, cannot be reimbursed, and can only be used as discount/credit for the cost of my group workshops.

$10 Tier
$10 or more per month
  • All the rewards of $5 tier
  • PLUS a private screen capture video critique of one of YOUR images per month
    • You would email me one image every month ([email protected]) and within a few days (might be a little longer sometimes) you would receive my critique of the image. My critique might be short or long, depending on how much I have to say about the image. But usually it's between 3 and 10 minutes. I would critique your image the same way I critique my images - what works, what doesn't, what areas need improvement, what would I have done differently, etc. I believe that overtime,  as I familiarize myself with your style, these critiques develop into meaningful creative guidance or even subtle mentorship.
$50 Tier (EARLY BIRD)
$50 or more per month
All the benefits of the $5 and $10 tiers... PLUS I will personally retouch, crop, and process one of your images per month. I'd treat it like one of my own images. You will be able to send me your raw file and in a few weeks receive the TIFF file with all the editing layers and embedded Lightroom adjustments and the final high-resolution JPEG for your use.

To borrow the music analogy from Ansel Adams, you provide the "music" score and I "perform" it in my style. And hopefully you learn something in the process - either the retouching and processing techniques OR simply discover something about your own images / style that you didn't consider before.

The first 10 people to sign up get at this rate. For late comers, the rate will go up and another Late Bird Tier will be created.

Goals
42 of 100 patrons
Once I reach 100 patrons, I will introduce another $5 Reward - a Photoshoot Video Feed from a monthly test shoot specifically aimed at my Patreon subscribers and concentrating on things I talk about in my posts.
