At $250, we are fully paying the narrator (and the ancillary fees) for an hour's work on the Stone Moon trilogy. (Right now, when we fall short, I'm covering the remainder.)

So I do this thing, where my blog is full of serialized novels, and funny stories about my daughter, and meandering reviews of books or contemplations about life. And then I draw silly pictures and put them on twitter, or take whimsical photos to share, and I generally spend most of my time thinking 'how can I entertain people or take them to some other world' and this causes me to walk into walls because I am so distracted.
I love, love, love serializing fiction. I love writing rambling explanations of business principles illustrated with cartoon jaguars. And I love doing silly pictures (or serious ones) and drawing tiny dragons or painting for the camera. But all this stuff is ancillary to the work that makes me money, which involves royalties generated by e-books and audiobooks and print works. I am grateful that those things generate money on their own but I would be sad if I wasn't spontaneously exploding with free stuff for people... because I love talking about the art with everyone, and I love sharing it with people who might be low on cash on the moment, and I love the eternal Book Club vibe that happens when a bunch of excited people get together and talk about a story that's evolving day by day in front of them.
Traditionally I've supported my Free Fun Stuff via donations, tips and subscriptions. This is a new experiment to see if Patreon makes things easier or harder for folks to toss some coffee money in the pot. I've put in one pledge level ($1), but you can give any amount you like! And while this Patreon is more of a 'tip the author/artist because she made you smile' arrangement, I'm also giving my patrons gifts: things like coloring sheets, a la carte short stories that aren't available otherwise, weird bits of background, floor plans, even serialized audiobooks. I expect to continue evolving the content I make available to those of you pledging here--if you have particular ideas, too, I'm all ears!
