A Medieval Begging Letter
To his dearest friends and listeners, Patrick of Medieval Death Trip sends greetings. Your manifest wisdom and discernment have steered you down many mossy by-ways and narrow trails to seek out remote and curious places where you might sharpen your wit to a still keener edge against stones however humble. Would that the world had more in your mold! It is written that "Fair word exhibited by reason is better / Than threatening in asking for any gift," and so I will not alarm you with dire prophecies of the show coming to an end or being locked behind a toll-gate. But yet I may still invoke the virtue of your prudence in helping to give security to things which you find of value. At present, our work continues apace -- indeed, we hope it is progressing upwards in its refinement -- yet it is true that we run but one microphone malfunction or hard-drive failure from cresting Fortune's wheel and dashing ourselves on the scaffold below. Your support will give us the means to provision ourselves against such adversities. But let such things be forever banished from our thoughts! Your contributions can do much more than merely make the foundations on which we work safe and sure; you can also help raise lofty towers of song and music, sturdy buttresses of research, deep storehouses of sounds and effects, busily ringing workshops of timely production, and strong arching bridges of server speed and stability. And while all who have ears to hear will benefit from such fruits of your generosity, you as a pillar of material support will receive an additional crop of special readings, reserved for our dearest friends. Friendship of all kinds is a blessing never to be spurned. There are friends who listen, friends who offer praise -- indeed, friends who offer gentle correction of our faults -- but that friendship is gilded of one who offers their cloak when we are in need and who pulls us up when we are low. Your friendship is to us already a boon beyond price, but never would we spurn whatever munificence you choose to add on top of that treasure past counting. May this letter find you in peace, health, and prosperity! You may send by the agency of its bearer whatever tokens it pleases you to send, in measure, perhaps, with the pleasure we have brought and hope to continue bringing to you. For your friendship, care, and attention, much thanks!

Or, setting aside the medieval rhetoric for a simpler, modern appeal:
Thank you so much for being a Medieval Death Trip listener. You're part of a growing audience, which delights me enormously, but that success is also beginning to strain the capabilities of my web hosting provider at the tier of service I can currently afford. By supporting the show through Patreon, you can help fund an hosting upgrade, which should ensure more reliable and speedier downloads, as well as contributing to other production needs, like back-up (or even upgraded) equipment, updated software, licenses for professional music cues or sound effects, and subscriptions to scholarly databases. Episodes of the show will remain freely accessible to all, but Patreon supporters will get access to an audiobook recording of the Wonders of the East by the 14th-century friar Jordanus (for starters -- I intend to add more book recordings over time). I hope you will consider supporting the show through Patreon; it has been a labor of love these three years, and while the love remains in ample supply, it would be very nice to have any help with the more concrete material costs of producing a show!

If you're not a listener and just found us while browsing Patreon for fun, educational shows to support, you can find out more about us at medievaldeathtrip.com.
