Looking for some company? This tier gets you:
  • Exclusive access to my monthly newsletter. You'll find out what I've been up to, learn about art that's moved me, and get notified of upcoming projects and opportunities before anyone else!
  • A place in the Patron-only feed on this page, plus your own role and access to the Patrons channel in my Discord server. It'll get weird, probably.
  • Transcriptions of Misogyny Monday, a series I run from time to time on Instagram Stories. We do a deep dive on a small, sometimes oddly specific part of misogyny every week. I'm in the process of uploading backdated transcriptions (they predate my Patreon); once we're current, you'll get them more regularly!

About Megan DeJarnett

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by.

My name is Megan DeJarnett, and I'm a composer, performer, improviser, educator, and writer of vaguely musical works for headphones, theaters, and concert halls. By trade, I'm a trumpeter, dancer/mover, and occasional pianist; artistically, I'm an avid believer in the power of a good story and an advocate for nontraditional performance and the presence of diverse stories in the arts. I create and realize music for collaborative projects and concert programs, for sexual assault survivors and people seeking to understand, for those looking to change their lives and those just looking for a good show.

When I say I write music for sexual assault survivors, I mean that literally. Since 2016, I've been creating Letters from the Aftermath, a body of work including works for ensembles of various instrumentations, including voice(s), harp, full orchestra, electronics, trumpet, mixed ensembles, and open scores. Trauma-informed practices are an important part of how I create my work, regardless of subject matter. I really love writing and performing concert music that challenges performers to expand their technical abilities and present music in both traditional and nontraditional ways that mesh well with the story at hand, and that starts with keeping my performers safe. Ultimately, my goal is to create captivating, accessible music that performers and audiences enjoy.

I'm starting this Patreon so I can expand my creative horizons and connect more closely with my audience while creating a community space to share educational content. I want to continue collaborating with ensembles and performers to craft new works, but I also want to extend my reach and share the other facets of my artistic practice that I don't necessarily get to pull out of my bag as publicly. I want to share my knowledge about queer theory and power imbalances more directly than I get to on my blog. And most importantly, I want to make sure I stay in music, despite the day jobs that will be a significant part of my early career.

It's not going to be easy, friends, but with your help, I think it's possible. I love what I do, and that dedication isn't going to change. But it isn't always easy to do what I do, both in the musical responsibility and the emotional weight of my subject matter. With your support—in any forms you provide!—I can continue my creative journey in a way that's healthy and enthralling for me. I'm looking forward to having you on board!
