Hello!

I’m Megan Frau! I’m an artist stuck in the Midwest, USA. I obsess over fantastical stories: folklore, myths, fairytales and more. This love was birthed from my love of RPGs, Fantasy books, Greek mythology, and webcomics growing up. I became an artist because I wanted to put to paper the visuals I always daydreamed over.

For years I created acrylic paintings that weave myth, magic, and personal struggles into pop surrealist imagery. Now I am looking to expand my storytelling beyond illustrations and art and into comics. I took a long, winding path to come to this realization (majored in animation, became a printmaker, switched to painting, taught art classes, ran a student gallery... bah), but I am determined to make up for the lost time. This summer I am premiering a webcomic story that I’ve been working off and on since 2016. A lot has changed since those first days, but I’m excited to share it finally. Join me on this adventure.

The Grievers

The Grievers is a fairytale about processing grief, escapism, and transformation. A grief-ridden shop girl must overcome a haunting demon's mysterious curse before it consumes her body and soul. This story is primarily inspired by my mourning the loss of my mother in 2016 and perhaps an unhealthy attachment to the movie and book Howl’s Moving Castle that offered some levity during a dark period. Since the early days, the story has gone under many revisions and feels much more the story I’m excited to publish.

I will be publishing the webcomic during LINE Webtoon’s Discover section and hope that one day it will be picked up for feature. LINE Webtoon is a digital webcomic app which is free to read! I plan to premiere the first three episodes of the webcomic in June!
