About Melani Robinson

A decade ago I chronicled a year of online dating via the blog "One Year of Online Dating at 50." It was basically a shit show--but a funny one. I start blogging as a way to build a following and hone my skills because I was just starting and knew the way to get better at the craft was to write, write and write some more. The subject of the blog kind of chose itself as I had finally started dating again after the death of my husband and most of the dates I'd been on were, well, insane. I had a feeling I wasn't the only person meeting lunatics digitally and figured the blog would resonate with lots of people.

It did.

During that year I was named one of "The Ten Best Online Dating Experts" and "One Year" was named "Best Dating Blog." I also appeared on nationally syndicated talk shows and became a "Featured Blogger" on Huffington Post. I had thousands of amazing followers from around the world who cheered me on, but also gently called me out when I messed up--and I messed up a lot. All of it was more than I could've ever imagined from a blog about dating that began with only a handful of friends reading it.

BUT, there was one thing I didn't achieve. I wrote the equivalent of three books in that year of blogging, but I didn't earn a penny.

I've been a bit stuck lately both professionally and personally and with pandemic isolation, I've had time to reflect on things that have brought me joy. The blog was the genesis for so many good things and that's why I've decided to try it again, ten years later.

The deal is the same as the last time. I'll chronicle my quest for love, sharing the good, bad and humiliating and I won't stop unless I meet someone who rocks my world. Now that I have confidence in both my writing and my ability to tell a good story, I hope you'll support my work through this Patreon page. What that means is I write for you and you buy me a coffee each month.

Come on, buy this chick a coffee.
