About Matthew Anderson

Mere Fidelity is the flagship podcast of the Mere Orthodoxy Podcast Network. We — Matthew Lee AndersonDerek RishmawyAlastair Roberts, and https://twitter.com/AJWTheology — are friends who undertake weekly conversations about theology, the culture, and the church (which is to say, just about everything). Since launching in 2014, our conversations have ranged from in-depth explorations of Augustine’s Confessions, to theological analysis of the ‘nones’, to esoteric discussions about Duns Scotus and Herman Bavinck (especially Bavinck). And in addition to our freewheeling in-house discussions, Mere Fidelity invites a diverse array of guests on to the show.

The results? We have been called

  • "fresh, thoughtful, and quirky" (J. Todd Billings)
  • "casual and fun, but brilliant, too" (Karen Swallow Prior)
  • "a model of what Christian engagement should be" (Carl Trueman)
  • "the theological podcast greater than which none can be conceived" (Timothy Keller)

(Okay, the last is a slight exaggeration: but he did say "I listen to Mere Fidelity regularly. There is no better theological podcast." Which, if you ask us, is a staggering endorsement.)

So, you're on our Patreon page. What do you get for supporting us? For our Merrie Band™ (the official spelling) of Patreon supporters, we record bonus “+1” segments with all our guests, and we host periodic live Q&A shows with supporters at $3/month and up (the audio is made available to everyone at every level). And for our highest-tier, long-term supporters, we have a unique thank-you gift: a lovely letterpress wall print of a quote from Augustine’s Confessions.

Not convinced yet? Listen to the words of our Apple Podcasts reviewers:

  • “I listen to too many podcasts of all sorts. This is hands down the most beneficial to my brain and my spiritual life.”
  • “Always clever, often funny and only sometimes frustratingly ivory tower. All strokey-chin theology chats should go down in the context of friendships like this. Thanks for stretching my brain!”
  • “I love this podcast as much as Matt seems to like interrupting others.”

Mere Fidelity is predominantly listener-funded. So what do we do with your funding? Since reaching $200/month, we've upgraded our microphones and recording technology, so that we can put the audio problems of the past firmly behind us. We've hired a show manager to keep us organized (and write our copy). Since reaching ~$400/month, we've built a new website and hired a designer to create a new logo package (to replace the logo which Matt created in MS Paint, back in 2014). See our Goals section for more information on what we're hoping to do in the near and far future.

That's the pitch! We'd be ever so grateful if you'd sign up to support us, at whatever level is feasible and appropriate for you. And even if you can't chip in financially, if you like our content, do tell a friend; rate and review us on Apple Podcasts; visit our new website — all that good stuff.

Our audio is produced by Timothy Motte, and our marketing, schedule, and supporter relations are managed by Timothy Crouch. If you have a question, a comment, a compliment, or a complaint, you can direct it on Twitter to @merefidelity, or by email to [email protected] — or you can join the Merrie Band™ and air your grievances by direct message.
Goals
$402.10 of $500 per month
If we hit $500 a month in support, we'll be able to bring our first ever paid guest on the show for a mini-series (and we know exactly whom we want it to be).
