About The Metaworker
We are The Metaworker, a literary blog (or lit magazine on the internet) created by a group of graduates from Chapman
University. There, we edited the official Chapman lit-mag, the
Calliope. We don’t want to toot our own horns, but we’re pretty damn
satisfied with how that went, and once we’d graduated, we realized that
we weren’t done. So we had a few meetings, threw ideas around, and the
result is what you see now on our site.
We've been going strong for the past three years, and now that we've established ourselves in the online sphere, we want to make moves into the next phase of The Metaworker. But we can't do that without any capital. Our main goal with this Patreon is to finally, finally (finally!!) pay our amazing contributors. After that, we want to take the leap into publishing real, actual books, not just online publications.
We've been operating on a completely free model for years--each editor has always volunteered their time and never taken a dime from this passion project. We've never charged submission fees. There's no website paywall to access the work we publish. It's a sustainable model, but we've seen some incredible work come to us over the years--work that absolutely deserves to be paid--and since we believe strongly in never charging a submission fee, we'd love to see people support us and our creators here on Patreon. Your support allows us to reach creators who have wanted to submit to us, but didn't feel financially secure in doing so.
So, what will supporting us here mean?
Your support means:
- We can pay writers for their work.
- We can continue to support and grow The Metaworker with paid marketing.
- We'll be able to keep our site running and even improve it.
- We can create a physical Metaworker book.
- We can continue to give you amazing things to read.
We'd love for you to join us as we push to pay creators while keeping literary arts accessible for all. We know this is a bit of a cliche, but truly, your support means the world to us.
