My team and I have been putting out the Mindful Resistance newsletter since August, 2017, and I’m proud of what we’ve built so far.

Each week we do our best to provide an island of calm and clarity amid the storm—amid the cable news cacophony, the social media sniping, and political rhetoric that often seems designed to amp up the volume. We summarize the week’s truly important news, link to the week’s most illuminating analysis and reflection, and offer assessments of social and political developments and/or reflections on life in these times. I’ve been known to say—and I’m only half joking when I say it—that we have the highest signal-to-noise ratio in the Trump-related newsletter industry.

The newsletter has three animating goals: to clearly understand and so better address the underlying causes of the animosity and polarization that afflict America; to help readers preserve equanimity and inner peace even as they remain engaged citizens; and to help transcend humankind’s tribalistic tendencies and so foster the formation of a cohesive global community. In all of this we are guided by the Buddhist ideal of mindfulness: We try to cultivate a calm, alert, attentive perspective that brings clear comprehension and so can inform wise action.

The newsletter is free and comes out on Saturdays, 40 weeks each year (there’s an R&R break in late summer, and we take off some holidays). It is published by the Nonzero Foundation, a non-profit organization—with 501(c)3 status under US tax law—that aims to foster discourse and thought that help bridge national, cultural, ethnic, religious, and ideological divides. Donating to the Nonzero Foundation through this Patreon page not only helps sustain the newsletter, but helps it grow and evolve and perhaps, down the road, spawn other endeavors, such as podcasts and teaching aids and citizens’ guides to mindful political engagement.

My team and I deeply appreciate any support you can provide. And if for whatever reason you can’t provide support, we still hope you’ll be a regular reader of the newsletter.
