The Mechanics’ Institute Review (MIR) is a forum for the most exciting new writing in short fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction.

Consisting of an online platform, a printed literary magazine, and a series of creative writing events and career-developing opportunities, The Mechanics' Institute Review is a contemporary magazine designed to represent the quality and diversity of the UK literary scene. We publish fiction, non-fiction, and poetry on a weekly basis as well as blog posts, interviews, reviews podcasts, and more. We also run free workshops and live reading events.

We would like to expand the platform, to provide more opportunities for upcoming writers, and engage with established literary professionals. We want to provide mentoring, support, and information for all writers in the UK. We also plan to set up a series of masterclasses.

MIROnline's online content has always been, and always will be, free to read. We will continue to run free events and workshops for new writers. However, in order to compete in the literary world, we need to raise some funds. So we plan on offering even more services to new writers. A monthly subscription to our Patreon will entitle you to a range of mentoring opportunities and discounted access to our premium services.

We have so many exciting things planned and hope that you will join us in the next stage of our journey.
