My name is Cecil Castellucci. I am the author of twenty book and comic book shaped things including BOY PROOF (A Time Magazine 100 Best YA Books of All Time!) THE PLAIN JANES, ODD DUCK, STAR WARS: Moving Target, SHADE, THE CHANGING GIRL and oh so many other things.  I am a former indie rocker who played under the name Cecil Seaskull / Nerdy Girl.  I have written a few operas. A few plays.  An indie film.  I like to do all sorts of projects like when I did a conceptual piece, Literary Diaspora.

Basically,  I'm an author, artiste and a lady. And oh do I want to do all sorts of arty things!  There are art projects that I put on hold because when you are a freelancer, it's feast of famine. I figure that if I am able to cover my basic nut, it will free up mental space to do more arty things.  Some things I want to do:

  • Write about one million more novels and comic books
  • Write a new play and do a reading of it.
  • Start working on the libretto for another opera.
  • Write some new songs and put them out.
  • Make another movie down the line.
  • I've committed to participate in the Arctic Cycle Theatre Challenge to raise awareness about Climate Change so I want to be able to do this right.
  • Continue with my literary and read aloud volunteering at Mayberry Elementary School (16 years now!) and do a musical review reading to get books for the kids for their home libraries.

I have been toying with the idea of doing a Patreon but have been a little shy. Often times, as a freelancer, I am waiting for cheques (which honestly are not even that big) and the scary part is getting so low on funds that food becomes the last of my priorities. I often count my pennies in terms of "Do I get to make art for another month?" Just the idea of having groceries covered every month will be a real big boon to me. It's hard to run on fumes.

If you know me, then you know that when I say I'm going to do a project, I really do it. And one thing I will do with your support is some kind of visible small art project every month that I will share. This could be a story, a song, a piece of conceptual art, something.

Right now this is an experiment. If this works out, then down the line, I may switch to project based in order to accomplish some of the non book things stated above that I've been wanting to do.

Thank you for being on this art adventure with me. If you don't know me, here are some links to a very small sampling of some of the projects I've done. Book trailer for my newest graphic novel SOUPY LEAVES HOME (it just came out May 2nd!)

Trailer for my comic book opera LES AVENTURES DE MADAME MERVEILLE.

A sample of Nerdy Girl / Cecil Seaskull (which is available on places like spotify and iTunes)

Thank you thank you thank you.  You're like a Medici, helping the artists thrive.  You will have access to things that no one really has!  Every month you'll have access to something new and secret.  This could include short stories that are obscure and have only been in hard to find literary magazines!  A secret password to watch my opera or unseen feature film!  Mp3s of long lost Nerdy Girl 7" songs!  Also the occasional piece of snail mail using a postcard from my literary diaspora conceptual art piece.

I can eat guys and gals!  That means that I can breathe and my brain can think.  I can create!  When I reach this goal, I will write an exclusive short story just for you all. It will be a limited edition printed in some way and mailed to you my wonderful supporters!  Also you will have my high five forever because being a starving artist seems romantic, but it's not as glamorous as it seems.  I love you!
