CLICK HERE TO START READING -- The Struggling Writers Club Mysteries

Hello! Me here. You there. Hi.

I'm here today to talk to you about a couple things. First, my new project, a sometimes campy, sometimes more straightforward serial mystery saga: The Struggling Writers Club Mysteries. The series will follow a small group of writers; some young in age, some young in talent, that will have to take a break from commiserating about the struggles of making it as a writer to do some accidental detective work.

Why writers? They say you should write what you know, and I've been writing stories since the age of 9, so I know what I myself as a writer am like. Personally, I think the trope of writers writing about other writers who get to have exciting and sexy adventures is so ridiculous and exhausted. And that's why I've created an entire cast of them! The story is a little tongue-in-cheek, a little backbite-y, and other oral metaphors, and so it seemed natural to kind of dip into that very dry, very popular well and poke a little fun at it.

I'll be writing 2000-3000 word installments and posting them online, and if you want to support that effort and get earlier access than the public schlubs (hereafter referred to as "the schlublic") who aren't supporting this project, then I'm asking for your help with donations.

Why donations? A couple of reasons.

First: Respect. I know we all have to pay our dues and start somewhere, but ask any writer/artist/sculptor/clown about working on spec, and you're bound to get an angry look and a story about being swindled. It may not be labor, but it's work, and I have to value my efforts somewhere, small or large.

Second: Necessity. I've been writing full-time since 2010, and the market and my situation has changed a lot since then. When I started writing full-time, it was almost offensively easy for me to land a few big clients and some smaller ones and pay my bills with relative ease and money to spare. Since then things have gotten progressively more challenging to the point where I am spending the bulk of my day trying to land work - not just writing clients, a part-time job to help even out my expenses.

Which brings me to the most pivotal part about this: All the money being brought in through this campaign is going toward my bills. Nothing else. Just cost of living. I'm not taking friends out for drinks, I'm not buying a 4KTV, all I'm doing is using this money to get by. If it somehow reaches a point where the money I'm bringing in exceeds the money I need for things like rent and utilities, I'll let you know. This is 100% transparent, I promise you.

I've put up some rewards for different levels of support, so you get even more bang for your buck if you want to pledge more than the bare minimum.

I hope you enjoy the stories, and thank you for your support!
