Letter from the Editor:

Dear Future Patron,

One of my passions is communicating what the gloriously creative people of San Antonio are doing to make our city beautiful, especially if it is contemporary/modern! We launched Modern in San Antonio (known in social media as @ModerninSA) one year ago with the goal to tell the design story behind why things look the way they do in San Antonio. Why did they design it to look that way? What was their inspiration? Who are the minds behind the art/design?

So far we have highlighted local artists/designers via writing articles about them on our website and featuring them on social media. Through this, we have been able to connect artists with art buyers and potential clients with local designers, further achieving our goal to boost economic development in the local creative industries and expanding the local appreciation for the talent we have here in SA. Another result is we have had people out-of-state contacting us as an authority on local art/design and asking about the most notable creative professionals. In 2018, we added an Advisory Panel that consists of a local architect, landscape architect, interior designer, artist, graphic designer, and business professional that supports the arts. We hope to add an arts educator and chef to the list in 2019! We also seek to put our money where our mouth is by sponsoring local fundraisers to help support the arts. In 2018, we sponsored a photo booth for the International Interior Design Association and helped sponsor a local fundraiser highlighting the artwork of local artist, Analy Diego, where all proceeds went towards scholarships for UTSA College of Architecture Construction and Planning students. We hope to do more in the future!

As you can see, we have the drive to tell these stories and now you can join us on this journey as well! We have future goals to expand our impact, so we have created a Patreon account to achieve these goals. Some immediate goals are to begin a podcast series highlighting local makers/creatives and artists/designers, and produce videos highlighting local initiatives and people that are shaping the fabric of our city. Please consider joining us at one of our various patron levels on Patreon in 2019.

ViVA M!SA,
Elizabeth Williams
