Morna Young

is creating plays

I'm a playwright, actress and musician from a wee fishing village in Moray. In 2019, I was awarded Scots Writer of the Year (at the inaugural Scots Language Awards) which was probably the proudest moment of my life. I'm still chuft about it.
My debut full-length play, Lost at Sea, premiered at Perth Theatre in 2019 before touring No. 1 venues in Scotland. Lost at Sea is an epic tale spanning forty years of the fishing industry, inspired by the loss of my fisherman father when I was five. Subsequently, the play won two Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS), a Broadway World Award and was a finalist in the Herald’s Culture Awards. Alongside this, my Scots comedy Aye, Elvis commenced its third outing as part of the ‘People’s Choice’ season at ‘A Play, A Pie and A Pint. The Herald’s 5* review described it as “Young’s gem of a play... it’s a delight”.
I'm a working class quine, I usually write in Scots language and my plays often explore class, gender and landscape. More info at
