What is MSDP?
MSDP is a free and open-source platform for Multimedia Synthesis, Design, and Performance. The tools included in this software provide everything you need to make audio and video creations that are compelling, complex, exploratory, and engaging. The unique performance-centric interface is designed for the stage – whether that stage is a concert hall, a bar, or a bedroom. The program is easy to get into – you'll be making exciting sonic and visual discoveries in seconds – and the software is a thrill to master, giving you a monumental wealth of creative possibilities.

Why does MSDP need a Patreon page?
There are a lot of costs that go into developing, testing, and maintaining the MSDP application and website. Patreon provides a way for the team to recoup the expenses that go into making the program, while allowing us to connect and communicate in a fun, meaningful way with our community. For creators who use MSDP, Patreon is a way to expand your creative experience while simultaneously supporting and assisting the development of the program.

What do MSDP patrons get in return for their support?
Our Patreon page shares a variety of content that helps you dig deeper into, and get more out of, your MSDP experience. We plan on releasing new content each week, and we have additional exciting incentives for bigger donors. All content is created by lead developer Hugh Lobel with potential guest contributors.

The following is a partial list of planned Patreon-exclusive content:

  • Preset bundles - New presets for your MSDP modules will help you create wild sounds, and give you unexpected ways to use your favorite tools.
  • Custom boards to add to your projects - These boards will help you kick-start your projects with exciting ideas, and imaginative module combinations to push your projects to the next level.
  • Hand-crafted projects - These are entire projects made up of multiple interconnected boards designed around a variety of topics - explorations in stochasticity, complex and evolving sound design, masterclasses in automation and score crafting, and much more.
  • Early-release Modules - Sometimes, the energy and time it takes to release an update to MSDP means that newly made modules sit around for days, weeks, or months before they get shared with the world. Now, patrons at the $5 tier will have the chance to download and use official MSDP modules as soon as they are built - no need to wait until the next official release to get access to new tools!

Is this a 'Premium' tier for MSDP users? Do I need to pay money to access exclusive modules?
No!
All of the presets, boards, and projects will use the same MSDP tools and modules that are available in the official release. The content provided on Patreon provides patrons with pre-built setups for modules, boards, and projects that make it even easier to create exciting and engaging MSDP projects. All early-release modules will be added into the following official MSDP update, and patrons simply get the chance to use the modules as soon as the team finishes building them.

Boards and Presets
$2 or more per month 0 patrons

Patrons at this first level will receive weekly boards and presets that can be used to fill out projects with new and exciting ideas.

Each download comes with a readme file that explains how to add the content to your own MSDP projects, and how the boards and presets are meant to be used.

Boards will include a variety of ideas, everything from unique instrument combinations to fun ways to manipulate voice, recordings, video, and camera feeds.

All boards and presets may be used and modified to make and share your own professional creations. No attribution is required.

Projects + Early Access to Modules
$5 or more per month 1 patron

Patrons at this second level will receive the weekly boards and presets from the $2 tier PLUS more complex MSDP projects AND early access to new modules.

Modules make up the core of the MSDP experience, and new modules  means new possibilities for your performances and recordings. It can be a  drag waiting for each new release of MSDP to try out new tools, and  sometimes it can be hard to track all of the possibilities when a ton of  modules drop all at once!

At the $5 tier, you'll receive a regular feed of new modules in your  mail client, ready to download and ready to use. Since you'll have the  modules before they go out, you'll even be able to request changes to  the design that we can consider integrating before the official launch!

Occasionally, we'll also share MSDP projects. Projects include multiple interconnected boards, and are built around a variety of advanced topics and concepts. Audio-reactive video projects, complex score automation examples, stochastic experiments, and more, will give you new insight into building and performing compelling multimedia works.
