Why Patreon?

We ARE NOT going to put the regular audio behind a paywall. We are just using this to make it easy for you. We know that a lot of you already utilize Patreon and want to use one spot. Therefore, we are setting up a couple low $ options for you to support Mountain Bike Radio. You can always give more too: http://mountainbikeradio.com/supportmbr/

Explanation

I'm Ben Welnak, the founder of Mountain Bike Radio. It's been over 6 years since the first parts of Mountain Bike Radio started being pieced together. A lot of computer and microphone time has been logged since then - late nights, early mornings, and long days. Day by day it has come together and, thanks to all of your support, we continued to crank on. The show lineup will continue to evolve, improve, and grow and I'm excited to see where it continues to go as we forge ahead.

I would like you all to be part of it and I know that many of you are already on Patreon. So, I've created this platform to offer a low-cost, easy-to-use option so that you can support the show on your terms. We'll use it as a direct connection with all of you that will be transparent to allow you to see what's happening with your money. If you'd like to become more involved at a higher level, you can become a MBR member anytime.

If every one of our true fans kicked in $1 per episode, we'd be able to do pretty much everything you all wanted plus things you didn't even know you wanted! What is it worth to you?

I sincerely appreciate all of your support. Thank you for however you get involved.
- Ben

Where Does Your Money Go?

We know that you want to see your money at work. Who doesn't? This isn't an exact breakdown of all the exact expenses and it's in no particular order, but it should give you a good idea of where we are focusing the efforts thanks to all of you. The raised through this will go to the following:

"Voices of MBR" We want to give all of the hosts of MBR a consistent amount of compensation for their time, energy, and talent (at the end of day, it would be AWESOME to be able to employ several, so they could kick their other jobs to the curb). Consistent compensation does 3 things: 1) Provides them will well-deserved bike money 2) Provides incentive for them to stay motivated and continue providing content at a high, consistent level and 3) Allows MBR to hold hosts to a more consistent schedule to meet your expectations.

Equipment and software. You know how important consistent sound quality is and we take that seriously. We want to have the proper equipment in place to produce quality sound for every episode of every show to give you the best experience possible. That includes high quality microphones, mixers, and portable equipment for onsite situations. Different software is necessary for recording and editing on both Mac and PC and we want the entire network to be on the same page.

Operating expenses. These are ongoing, daily/weekly/monthly costs associated with keeping the whole show up and running, including website hosting, podcast hosting, data storage and backup, security, software, internet, and all the little extra day-to-day expenses. They all add up and are hard to continually keep low and decreasing as the amount of content continues to increase.

"Next Level" Production. We are looking to up the anty and bring you better production, including some narrative, highly quality episodes similar to what you would hear on popular podcasts such as the new Out There Podcast or This American Life. Additionally, we will need to enlist some professional help to get this done.

Website and App. Looking forward, there are changes we want to make and that will need to happen

Investment. We want to be ready to jump on any opportunities that would benefit MBR and it's hosts. This requires liquid assets (cash).

Giving back. With a good base of all of the above in place and the improvements that come along with those, we're very confident that we'll have the ability to give back more as time goes on in the form of trail funds, race and racer sponsorships, and just more fun giveaways to all of the listeners.

Why Not Just Get Regular Advertising?

We know what you're thinking. Can't they just get some regular advertisers to pay? Yes, we can, we do, and we will work with a limited number of larger partners in 2018 and beyond. However, our focus is on providing YOU a valuable experience without being littered with small ads that aren't relevant to you. The honest fact is that the resources and energy needed to maintain advertisers who contribute minimally far exceed the benefits. We feel those resources should go back to you, the listener in the form of great audio in your ear and an engaging experience. We don't want to turn into the traditional website that we are all full of - click bait, beg to click on our banner ads and links, loaded "reviews," and all the other techniques to fill numbers of pageviews and clicks. We want to keep things transparent, honest, and valuable to YOU.

Thank You!

I feel strongly that there continues to be a bright future with podcasting. The money that you invest in Mountain Bike Radio will strengthen our position in the podcast world and ensure that we're ready to tackle the trail ahead. I appreciate your support and welcome you into the MBR community. Thank you.  - Ben

It may seem like ONLY $1. But, we consistently have 4,000-6,000 downloads per episode. If every person who listens gave only $1 per MONTH, we could hire TWO people and create something entirely next level. And you'd have the satisfaction of knowing you made that happen. At $1, you get a big internet hug.

$3 per month is less pennies a day. At the average 4,000-6,000 downloads per episode, if every person who listens gave $3 per MONTH, we could hire TWO people and create something REALLY next level. And you'd have the satisfaction of knowing you made that happen. At $3, you get a really big internet hug a couple stickers.

$5 per month - you're awesome! At the average 4,000-6,000 downloads  per episode, if every person who listens gave $5 per MONTH, we would need to figure out where to send all of our team to get the great stories all over. If we had 5,000 people dropping in $5 per month, we'd be sending up a foundation to support the entire mountain bike community I think..... damn...just the thought is cool. At $5, you get a really big internet hug and more stickers.
Goals
$32 of $2,000 per month
When we hit this limit per month, we will be hiring one person to help create and produce audio, and work on all of the other inner workings of Mountain Bike Radio. That means it'll be pretty freaking cool. Plus someone will have a damn cool job.
