In 1998, I broke a five-year-old writing block when I discovered erotic Star Trek fanfic on the Internet. I greedily devoured a lot of fic in my early explorations, but one fateful story sparked in my mind the magic words: "I can write better than this crap!" I proceeded to prove that I could, and the rest is history

Since then I've written probably 500 pieces of fanfiction ranging from 500 to 10,000 words. I've also toyed with and abandoned multiple ideas for "original fiction". Twenty years in fandom have convinced me that at ground level, there is no original fiction. There is no original art. All works of art are transformative works, work that "takes something extant and turns it into something with a new purpose, sensibility, or mode of expression", to quote the Organization for Transformative Works.

My project here is to take what I've learned as a participant in the largely-female, cooperative, gift-oriented community of readers, writers, and illustrators of fanfiction and apply it to new works of fiction, to poetry, to pagan theologies, to thinking about the creative life. I see this project as the work I am given to do in the service of my gods and my community. I hope you can support me in this project as I seek to illuminate new possibilities in living, loving, creating, and building society through my work.

$29 of $75 per month
In October 2015 I was hit with an expense I hadn't budgeted for when I moved out on my own: Bus fare to get to work. My office has relocated for the next three to five years while our Central library building is renovated. $75 will cover a monthly pass with a bit left over and make my other expenses easier to meet.
