About Mus

Global Beepocalypse
Human civilisation is great. We have been growing like cabbage, expanding our concrete neighbourhoods, building on, under and over the ground. Lately though, the long-term consequences of some of our habits are becoming clearer, and it's not good news.
We were shocked to hear that in the past 25 years, 75% of all flying insects have disappeared from Germany. At first glance, this might seem like a victory. Everybody hates mosquitos, right?

And then we also learned something else: honeybees are being domesticated like cattle, to pollinate the big outdoor food farms that provide us with more than 75% of our food. And these 'pollinators for hire' are also disappearing. Because the honeybee is so important to us, companies have been studying these seemingly random disappearances and have concluded that there cannot be a single reason behind the symptoms. So they combined it into one name: Colony Collapse Disease (CCD).

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has combined the results of 1500 studies, and this resulted in the EU banning the three neonicotinoids of greatest concern to bee health - clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam - from outdoor farming. This is a bee victory, but as you can see, only covers a small part of the problem.

That's why we are here. Because of human expansion, many of the habitable areas and feeding grounds for bees have dissapeared; something we need to fix as soon as possible. You could at least throw some local wildflower seeds in your garden. But we also need to make up for all the highways and other places where no one lives. We are working on becoming fulltime flower rangers. Our job description will look a little like this:

  • Actively spread flower bombs in spring
  • Spread seeds and flower bomb recipes among people
  • Spread the word on CCD and how to help
  • Claim some land in Europe for a Pollinator Paradise and a workshop

We decided that this is more important than anything. So we won't spend years on getting our degree and working for a company. Instead, we'll go out there and get our hands dirty. We decided to create this page because nature needs help, but she can't hire us.. and you can.

Our continuous, basic research on pollination, flowers and bees is constantly shared here, along with pictures of our trips and all the beautiful flowers we are spreading. You will find easy DIY-tutorials and tips to work on your own enviroment. Together with you, we hope to help save bees from the true beepocalypse.

Because we can rely a little on our Patreons, we can upgrade our woodworking equipment and create a more considerable stock of natural goodies to help our cause. Thank you!
