About Max Howell

Hey there, I'm Max.

The foundation of the modern world is developer tools.

I build developer tools; I want to make the things you need to make the world a better place. This is my talent, it's the career I was destined for. A few years ago I created Homebrew, the package manager for Mac, used by millions due to its sensible design and careful developer-experience. I apply the same process to all the open source I make.

Great tools are easy to learn, easy to master and are powerful when mastered. Good tools know their boundaries, and instead provide delightful interfaces that facilitate interaction with the other tools that you already know and love.

I actively maintain over 30 open source projects, including the top-100 pod,  PromiseKitswift-sh the tool that makes scripting with Swift third party dependencies trivialPath.swift an elegant, delightful pathing utility, Workbench “Seamless, automatic, ‘dotfile’ sync to iCloud,” and Cake the delicious app-development supplement.

Once my Patreon gets enough support there are multiple other tools I am working on that will be open sourced, starting with the last one I wrote: Canopy.

Everything I release is featured on Patreon first, giving you the opportunity to talk about it before the rest of the Internet hears about it.

If you prefer not to use Patreon or just want to make a one time tip,  I have other options.
