About Myranda Storm

My love of painting started from early childhood. I participated in my first exhibition at the age of twelve. Having the opportunity to present my artwork in a serious environment was immensely inspiring at an early age. I graduated in spring of 2016 with an Associates’ Degree of Art History from Capilano University. My website and social media platforms were launched in August 2016.
I subsequently participated in six exhibitions, making connections through the Port Moody Arts Centre, Place Des Arts, and North Vancouver Arts Council. In 2017 I successfully entered into twelve exhibitions, connecting with Semiahmoo Arts, West Vancouver Arts Council, Burnaby Arts Council and Seymour Art Gallery. In 2018, I saw the completion of three private commissions and was featured in the “You Are Here” calendar project by West Vancouver Arts Council and North Vancouver Arts Council.
A significant amount of 2019 was spent doing concept research and experimental practice, delving into the deeper questions of why I was creating art. I wanted to find my niche, but nothing felt authentic. I struggled to connect to my practice, and, feeling discouraged about getting proper financial support as an artist, I joined the film industry. I kept up some commission work and did some art just for myself to be best of my ability during this time.
To my surprise, in March 2020 I was accepted into the Canada Council of the Arts as a professional artist, all my exhibition experience finally got me a shot for the financial support I needed. I got my first chance at funding but, at the same time my health weakened from overworking. I had to step away from art for the first time.
I was sick for approximately ten months. Thankfully, holistic natural medicine pulled through to heal my body. The experience influenced me to start learning herbalism with Commonwealth Herbs and it soon became the focus of my artistic practice. I had finally found my niche.
Each month I’m getting to know a new herb and creating a visual artwork to process my experience. I’m sharing videos of my beginner experiments with medicine making, my experiences getting to know each herb, and my studio art practice. (Her)balism project is a story of a women empowering herself through her relationship to plants and art, follow along and find all my art and herbalism content here.
*All products I use to create my art are reused from former projects, recycled or ethically sourced.
