We're taking the traditional writer's workshop online!
Stop writing alone. Stop relying on inconsistent and hard to find beta readers. Get your writing ready for an agent or publication on your terms and make lifelong friends. We meet once a month for now and will add nights and times as membership demands. Sit down to your computer, with a glass of wine, your latest work in progress and get immediate feedback.

Join other professional writers now and be elevated by fellow wordsmiths at every stage of the writing process!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Rule 1: SET UP - Every member will be emailed a video conference link 24hrs before a session. R&Cs will be at <g>8pm</g> PST on the last Wednesday of each month, with additional nights being added as membership size demands it. Want more opportunities to R&C? Invite more friends! Helps us grow and every 10 new members will create another night. We'll fill up all the Wednesdays first and then add the other days. When those are booked solid, I'll add more times.

Rule 2: READING - Every attendee of a session will have 0-10 minutes to read their original words. This is not an opportunity to hone your online performance skills or describe the book in its entirety. A brief description is permitted but it will count as part of your time. And no one will grade you on your reading ability. Too shy? No problem, just pay an extra $10 each time you want your moderator to read for you but make sure you've paid in advance and they have access to your pages.

Rule 3: CRITIQUE - This is not a mutual admiration society. I'll always encourage members to be positive and when that fails, to be kind. Empathy and courage are key. If you want someone to like everything you write, call your mom. Just don't call mine, she hates everything. The critiques will sometimes be a little rough and not what you want to hear. But a moderator will ALWAYS be there to ensure that they are focused on the work - never the writer. The purpose is to make your work as sharp, compelling, and professional as possible.

All attendees of a session will have up to 2 minutes to give their feedback for 10 minutes. This way a reader gets up to a total of 20 mins of focus on their work. The reader is not allowed to argue or respond, beyond a yes or no, to any critique. (readers who forget this will be muted) Not every participant in a group is required to provide a critique but if you never help anyone else, people will stop listening to you too so remember that. To get the most out of your critique, begin your reading by inviting people to focus on a specific aspect - voice, dialogue, descriptions, grammar, etc. Those providing feedback are advised to write down their thoughts to avoid losing time to recalling their critiques.

Rule 4: FOLLOW UP - Two minutes wasn't enough to tell the writer everything you wanted to? No Problem. Did you write all your thoughts down? As each reading is happening, the moderator will be posting the Session #, writers, name, project and any other specifics to our FB page. Please find the correct post and add your notes for the writer. Writers, feel free to respond and answer questions here to your heart's content.

Rule 5: VISITING - I strongly encourage you to watch the video of our first recorded session before joining, so that you will know what you’re getting into.

Rule 6: ZERO CENSORSHIP - At no time <g><g>am</g></g> I responsible for protecting members or visitors from words or ideas they would prefer not to hear. (we'll add a strictly R-Rated Group Read night when there is enough demand.) This is a professional writers' group, not a place that will guarantee you hear only a certain genre/religion/political ideology etc.

Rule 7: RESPECT - I'm not responsible for your internet connection or lack thereof. You are responsible for your background noise and our ability to hear you read. Where possible, be in a quiet place that is free of distractions and excessively flashing lights. The moderator will be managing everyone's sound as best as possible; all but the reader will be muted until the session is opened up for critiques.

Rule 8: INDUSTRY NEWS - As we grow, log onto your session link up to 15-20 minutes early to hear industry news and share announcements about fellow members. This is also about supporting our fellow writers so we want to hear about submissions to agents and/or publications, rejections, contracts signed, publish dates etc.

This format has provided exceptional results over the years, in multiple writers groups, resulting in hundreds of traditionally published books across the country. As a BONUS, we'll occasionally feature industry professionals as guests so you get to rub elbows and ask with published professionals and book agents.

If you’re serious about honing your writing, this is the place to be!

She teaches fandom building writing at writers conferences across the country.
