About Nadine Walks
In 2014 I started a blog called 'Begin With a Single Step' (now 'Nadine Walks') in order to write about my experience walking the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage route through Spain. That first Camino ignited a love of long-distance walking/hiking and I haven't stopped since.
I also haven't stopped writing about it. Or taking pictures! From blog posts, to articles, to e-books, to Instagram, to YouTube, to the (slow) process of writing a memoir, telling the stories of my walks has been just as important as the walking itself.
But these stories have never just been for me; sharing them and finding my audience has been the goal all along. If you're here, you probably read my blog or scroll through my daily Instagram photos, or maybe you found my e-book or gear list. Or you've been watching my YouTube videos! It's been such a joy to connect with an audience, and a true pleasure to create content that is beautiful or useful or entertaining.
Patreon is a way for me to share and connect even more. It's a platform that is based on the old idea of patronage. Here on Patreon, there are different levels of support that you can pledge; it's sort of like saying, "Hey, I support you and your art and I hope to keep seeing more of it!". It's kind of like a subscription- you can sign up to pledge a different amount each month. I'm starting the levels at $1.00 a month, and while this might not seem like a lot, it's actually tremendous.
This support is going to enable me to do a few things: cover the costs associated with running my blog. Motivate me to churn out more blog posts and videos. Create more e-books. Hire an editor for my memoir. Definitely cover some of my coffee stops along my walks. And who knows, with time and hard work and this extra support, I might be able to do more of this writing/photography thing. I might be able to walk around the world.
Bonus content is posted here, stuff that isn't shared on any other platform (not Instagram or YouTube or my blog). It might be essays, life updates, real-time videos from my walks. There's also the ability to message me directly, and while we can certainly interact on other platforms, I see Patreon as a space where I can really engage in a back-and-forth. Ask me your Camino questions! I'm happy to try to answer, and I can invest a little more time and energy in my conversations here.
Patrons or not, I'm going to keep sharing my stories. But how incredible it is to have this opportunity to ask you to support my art; how incredible to be in this position at all, to try to be creating something beautiful to put out into the world. I can't wait to see where I'm going next, and I'm so happy to have you along for this journey.
