A bit about me:

Hello! My name is Jennifer Miller, though many may know me as my online alias, "Nambroth". I've been making visual art for as long as I can remember, and have been sharing it online since 1997. I am a full time professional freelance artist, specializing in wildlife and fantasy paintings, though I also sculpt and work in several mediums. Most recently I am oil painting with great enthusiasm!
My first calling was that of fantasy and wildlife art, and to that end I love to paint real animals as well as mythological ones. I work in
both traditional paints as well as digital ones! Most recently, I have started to get into more sculpture work, and have created mini fluffy birds and work on realistic bird masks.

What gets shared here?

You will find that I share my work and occasional life updates here. Most of my posts to Patreon will be: Paintings, some sculpture, and sketches. The subject matter will be mostly birds, wildlife, and fantasy creatures such as dragons and gryphons. You can see in the "Featured Tags" about how much of each I typically share! Both fantasy and wildlife art have been life-long passions of mine. Though it would be simpler to stick to just one genre, it would be miserable for me-- so you can expect a bit of both!

Why should I sign up?

This is not a paywall. 99% of all of my finished art is also shared across my online presence. Those that have enjoyed seeing my artwork on places such as Deviantart, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook will continue to see it. That said, there are bonuses to being Patrons! Patreon content will be: sketchbook pages, coloring pages, Works In Progress, journals from the artist, and a few odds and ends. These are things I normally did not share publicly online before Patreon, so nothing has changed for my regular fans! However, Patreon supporters often get first looks at new work before I post it elsewhere and get to see a lot of works in progress. This Patreon is not intended to be reward-heavy, but a way for kind folks to support me if they like seeing what I do and get some behind-the-scenes peeks!

Why Patreon?

Working freelance is sometimes a bit rough. Personal projects especially tend to suffer. If you are able to help, I'd love to put more time into pulling the images out of my head and into existence!
I also enjoy painting artworks of endangered species to raise awareness, promote education, and conservation...  and I try to donate to appropriate charities that work to save these wonderful animals, plants, and habitats. In the past I've created artwork and donated to groups working to help. The Peregrine Fund, World Parrot Trust, and Kakapo Recovery are a few of the groups I regularly donate to, as well as donating work to other conservation groups such as Ducks Unlimited, and various local charities. Creating art for conservation does not result in income, so when people support me on Patreon, I am granted the privilege to finance such artworks that I am not intending to see a monetary return on.
I also enjoy working on duck stamp competition paintings, which are special non-postage stamps that fund wetland conservation!

In 2014, I had the immense honor of winning the Federal Duck Stamp competition. This is a competition among some of the best waterfowl artists in the United States, and is akin to winning an Oscar or "the Superbowl of Wildlife Art". The Federal Duck Stamp sales go directly toward conservation, and to date have preserved over 6.5 million acres of wildlife habitat! Special thanks goes out to Patreon patron Chelsea Howe, who helped me get together the entry fee. People like you and Chelsea can change lives with your kind support!

Painting birds. It's a thing I do.

What is Patreon? How does this work?

Patreon is a platform that allows anyone to become a patron of the arts. This is a stuffy way of saying that here we have a streamlined way for you to support an artist directly. Think of it sort of as an ongoing, online tip jar; if you like an artist's work, and can't afford or don't want to necessarily buy the artwork regularly, but still want to support them in some way? This is a great way to do it. It's a nod of your head, saying, "Hey, I like what you do, thanks for sharing, here's some support so you can keep going." It's all totally optional, and you can quit doing it at any time. When you pledge, you will be charged only once per month, and you can cancel when you want. You can read more in the FAQ here if you have questions about how the money part works.

I want to support you, but I'd prefer to have something to show for it.

That's totally reasonable! I do have an online shop, and that sort of support is always most welcome! Here's my online storefront.

What do you do with the money?

Any gain from Patreon will be applied toward creating new works, buying art supplies, doing stuff to keep my computer running (for digital art), etc. Specifically, it will give me a little financial "breathing room" to create more personal pieces. Personal artworks are not done on commission and can be a bit risky for a full-time artist, because there is no guarantee that I will ever see a return on it. While I hardly create art just for the money, the financial reality of the world means that I must make ends meet if I wish to continue making art as a full time career. When I am supported by folks like you, it gives me a little more time to make things that might or might not earn me any money, and that is a beautiful thing! I often make personal artwork for habitat and animal conservation issues (see above), so that I can spread the love.

My painting of Hooded Mergansers at a duck stamp competition. It took 5th place. I never would have been able to do this without support from people that believed in me! Thank you so much!
